The Minnesota Vikings have gone stone cold after opening the season at 5-0. They’re 0-3 since their bye in week 6 and were beaten 22-16 by Detroit at home last week. However, at 5-3, they still sit atop of the NFC North standings. They’ll be attempting to turn things around this Sunday, November 13th when they visit the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field. The Redskins sat last week’s action out with a bye following a 27-27 tie with Cincinnati a week earlier. Washington is 4-3-1 this campaign and sits third in the NFC East.

Minnesota Vikings – A Closer Look:
The Vikings’ losing skid has reached an alarming three games with a 22-16 home loss to the Lions last week. Quarterback Sam Bradford has been inconsistency and the team’s running game is now ranked a woeful 31st in the NFL and gained only 78 yards on Sunday. In addition, they’ve recorded just two sacks during their past three outings. They haven’t quite collapsed yet, but will be close to it if they drop another encounter in Washington on Sunday. Minnesota blew a late lead as Detroit tied the game in the last minute with a 58-yard field goal and won it in overtime.
Bradford will need to be better this weekend and will be facing a Washington pass defense which is ranked number 15 in the NFL. Receiver Stefon Diggs caught 13 passes for 80 yards last week and could also be a key player. The Minnesota ground attack has gone south though and has hit the 100-yard barrier just once this season. They’ll be up against the Redskins’ 26th-rated ground defense. The Vikings have posted an average of just 12 points on the scoreboard in their three losses and their secondary has allowed four passing scores in the last three contests. Minnesota is 8-3 straight up on their past 11 road trips and 9-2 ATS.
Washington Redskins – A Closer Look:
Washington lost the first two games of the season then won four in a row and are now winless in their past two. Perhaps their bye last week came at a good time. They tied the Bengals 27-27 the last time out, but have quietly climbed into the third-best ranking for yards per game with 410.3. Their passing offense is also an effective 298.8 yards per week. They’re not as good on the ground though as their 111.5 yards per contest ranks 15th in the league. Matt Jones leads the squad in rushing, but may miss the game due to a knee injury.
The Redskins will have to rely on Robert Kelley and Chris Thompson if this is the case. Kelley gained 87 yards on 21 carries two weeks ago and added a touchdown. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has totaled 2,454 yards in the air this year and averaged 306.8 yards a game. The veteran has thrown just an average 12 touchdown passes though throughout eight games while he ranks sixth in interceptions with seven. The Redskins give up 369.8 total yards and 123.8 rushing yards per game along with 23.6 points, which are all below league average. Washington is 8-4 in their past dozen home games and 7-5 ATS.
