Cowboys vs Steelers – CJ’s Take:

The Cowboys, who suffered through an injury to Tony Romo during the pre-season, have seemingly gotten lucky with the insertion of rookie Dak Prescott, who has been everything they hoped for and a whole lot more. Prescott, the fourth-round draft pick out of Mississippi State, went “clean” last week, with no interceptions, no fumbles and no sacks. On the season he has 12 touchdown passes with only two interceptions and 8.1 yards per attempt. Of course, he’s got a little help from fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott, who leads the NFL with 891 rushing yards. Right now this team is on the verge of tying a franchise record for consecutive wins during a season. The only other Dallas Cowboys team which has won eight games in a row was the 1977 edition, which went on to win Super Bowl XII.

The Steelers had just two first downs and 69 total yards in the first three quarters of last Sunday’s 21-14 loss to the Ravens. Seemingly nothing was working, and Ben Roethlisberger, who came back three weeks after having arthroscopic knee surgery, was ineffective, with only 54 yards through the air through the first 50 minutes. But then he came on a bit, to say the least, throwing for 210 yards over the last ten minutes, although it was not enough.

For the Steelers to be very competitive year, they have to get lay beyond Bell’s engine revved up. Bell had only 32 yards on 14 attempts last week, and he sparked a little bit of controversy by making a few remarks about the team’s practice habits, which he characterizes as poor. “I think we have to practice better,” he says. Needless to say, head coach Mike Tomlin was not happy to hear about that. But Antonio Brown has also suggested that his fellow wide receivers have not stepped up as much as they possibly can. Brown has 55 receptions on the season, and the next highest total by a wide receiver is just 20.

The Dallas defense is ranked 10th in the NFL, and this season they have not only not allowed a 100-yard rusher, they have not permitted a 100-yard receiver either. But they’ve got some injuries to worry about; it is quite possible that they’ll be missing safety Barry Church and cornerback Morris Claiborne. On the season, they only have four interceptions, so if Roethlisberger is sharp, he could do some damage here.

VietBet patrons know that there were a lot of special teams mistakes on the part of the Steelers as well last week, including penalties and a blocked punt. Tomlin is catching a lot of flak in the press, and they have a rookie cornerback, Artie Burns, who on balance is doing a pretty good job, but has a tendency to give up the big play. He was covering Mike Wallace last week but gave up a 95-yard touchdown to the Baltimore receiver. Aside from that, the defense did not do badly at all, holding the Ravens to just 2.9 yards per play.

And the drama surrounding the Cowboys’ quarterback situation lingers. Romo is back practicing, but it appears as if owner Jerry Jones, who is also functions as his own general manager, is looking to put off any kind of potential decision on whether to put him in the starting lineup for as long as possible. “We’re going to play it by ear, play it as it comes,” is what Jones has said.

Next up for both teams:

  • Dallas home to Baltimore Sunday, November 20
  • Pittsburgh at Cleveland Sunday, November 20
