Raiders vs Ravens – CJ’s Take:

Oakland is a team that has covered its last five games on the road, and that would seem very unusual for squad that doesn’t exhibit a lot of defensive prowess. But while they are 32nd in the league defensively, they are also first on offense, and a lot of credit for that has to go to Derek Carr, who threw for 249 yards last week in a 17-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Carr has, at his disposal, one of the better wide receiver duos in the AFC in Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, and the team is having some success rotating running backs Latavius Murray, DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard, the latter two being rookies, which is certainly a pleasant surprise for them. And they seem to have a swashbuckling coach in the person of Jack Del Rio, who as you probably recall, when for the two-point conversion after late touchdown the season opener at New Orleans and succeeded.

The Ravens are a healthier squad this season, and obviously the record shows it. They had 20 players on the injured reserve last season, and they have brought back almost all of those people and then some. One of those is Steve Smith, who actually reversed field after announcing his retirement and decided to come back for another season. He had 87 yards receiving last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, in a game where Baltimore was frankly lucky to win. It isn’t often that you can turn the ball over three times in the fourth quarter and still come away with a victory on the road, but that is exactly what happened. Give some credit to the defense, which allowed Jacksonville to only come up with one field goal out of those three turnovers. And speaking of turnovers, the Baltimore defense intercepted Blake Bortles three times and held the Jaguars to just 216 yards of offense.

What VietBet patrons probably didn’t expect last week was that the Oakland stop unit would come up with some big plays. They forced three turnovers against Tennessee, which is admittedly not the most explosive offensive team, but it is encouraging to see that they can flip the field a little bit.

Meanwhile, the Ravens have not really looked like the kind of team that can create much of a margin over the opposition. They defeated Buffalo 13-7 in the opening week, then came back from a 20-0 deficit to beat Cleveland 25-20 and barely skated by last week, having to get a 54-yard field-goal by Justin Tucker to win it. Tucker might be their most potent weapon, and he kicked four field goals last week when drives stalled. Joe Flacco threw the ball 40 times but only had 214 yards to show for it.

These teams met last year in the second week, and Oakland came away with a 37-33 victory, in a game that featured 56 first downs and 735 yards passing.
