New York Jets – A Closer Look:

The Jets had an unexpectedly easy time a week ago Thursday when they took on the Buffalo Bills. We say that it was unexpected because Ryan Fitzgerald, their veteran quarterback, did not have a good history against Rex Ryan, as he had a 1-8 career record with 48% completions. But Fitzpatrick went 24 of 34 for 374 yards, and often his receivers were wide open. Both his wideouts, Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, topped the 100-yard mark.

As for the Jets’ running game, well, it looks like Matt Forte is going to be the guy who handles the load, and in fact, he is on pace to approach in NFL record for carries in the season. We really didn’t think this would happen with him, because at his age (30) most running backs are close to hitting the “wall” and have a lot of mileage on them. Forte has been used extensively by the Chicago Bears throughout his career as a rushing-receiving threat.

But the Chiefs have to look out for third wide receiver with the Jets now. Quincy Enunwa looks like he may be able to fill that slot, as he has caught 13 passes in the first two weeks. All in all, the Jets may be a more well-rounded offensive team this season, and because Smith has a propensity to take sacks, the New York defensive line, which had seven sacks in the opener, might be able to put an extra degree of pressure on the Kansas City signal-caller because of it.

Kansas City Chiefs – A Closer Look:

The Chiefs, who had shut out the Houston Texans 30-0 in the playoffs last season, allowed the Texans to get revenge last week by a 19-12 score. Alex Smith suffered four sacks in the game.

Jamaal Charles has sat out the first two games of the season for the Chiefs, as he continues recuperating from a knee injury, but there is a very good possibility that he will see action in this game. It’s not that Kansas City suffers all that much without him in the lineup though; Spencer Ware has accounted for over 300 yards from scrimmage over the first two games, so there is a plug and play quality to the Chiefs in the backfield, to a certain extent.

BetAnySports customers always have an eye out for Darrelle Revis, who has been a shutdown cornerback in the past, but has been getting burned lately. AJ Green did it in the first game, and then Marquise Goodwin of the Buffalo Bills scored an 84 yard touchdown against him in Game #2. The thing is, can Kansas City really exploit this kind of thing? Smith doesn’t really go down the field a lot, and Jeremy Maclin is not as much of a threat as many of the other wide receivers around the league.

Next up for both teams:

  • The Jets are home to Seattle Sunday, October 2
  • Kansas City visits Pittsburgh Sunday, October 2
