Redskins vs Giants Odds - 2016 Week 3 NFL Betting Preview

football 47 - Redskins vs Giants Odds - 2016 Week 3 NFL Betting PreviewThe Washington Redskins have to be classified as a disappointing crew through the first two games of the season, as much more was expected from them. After all, they were the NFC East champions last year, and at looked as if Kirk Cousins was going to become an expert operator of the West Coast offense. Most observers are putting those thoughts on hold right now, though, as Cousins has made some untimely mistakes over the first two games. On Sunday, the Redskins will go into the Meadowlands for a date with the New York Giants, as they attempt to avoid falling three games down in the division. The kickoff is scheduled for 1 PM Eastern time at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, and VietBet customers will have the opportunity to place wagers even after the opening whistle, through the magic of Live Betting Ultra.

The Redskins looked extremely confused on defense in the season opener, as they lost 38-16 to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home. Josh Norman, the big-money free agent defensive back they signed in the off-season, was not utilized on Pittsburgh’s top receiver, Antonio Brown, and this team really paid the price. Now the question becomes whether he will try to blanket Odell Beckham, with whom he brawled in the last encounter, when Norman was a member of the Carolina Panthers. If the Redskins can’t keep Beckham under control, they could be in for a long day.

Eli Manning threw the ball 41 times last week, but he seems very comfortable under new head coach Ben McAddo, as he should, since McAdoo has taught him the subtleties of the West Coast attack.

But maybe the real story is the Giants’ defense, which has shown vast improvement, if the first two games are any indication.

It looks as if Manning finally has a healthy set of receivers. Victor Cruz scored a touchdown in the first game and had 91 yards in receptions last week. Rookie Sterling Shepherd had 117 yards, and of course there is Beckham, the spectacular one. So there will be no rest for the Washington secondary. And as good as Norman is, he can only deal with one receiver at a time.

The Giants barely scraped by their first two opponents, beating Dallas and New Orleans by a combined four points. But the encouraging part is that they are playing well in close games. This team blew five fourth-quarter leads last season, which was the difference between them being an also-ran and a contender for the division title in the weak NFC East.

VietBet patrons know that this team fortified itself on defense during the off-season, picking up standout performers like Olivier Vernon, Janoris Jenkins and Snacks Harrison. And while we know that it is early, and there is not much of a sample size, thus far they have stuffed the run, allowing only 3.3 yards per carry, and have been anything but generous in the passing game, allowing just 5.3 yards per attempt. Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys averaged only five yards a throw against them in the season opener, and then he came back averaging almost ten yards an attempt against Washington the next week. But last Sunday the Giants handled Drew Brees and the Saints, who had seven touchdown passes against them in the 2015 meeting. This time New Orleans had just one touchdown and 288 total yards. So unquestionably that represents huge progress.

Next up for both teams:

  • Washington is home to Cleveland Sunday, October 2
  • New York Giants visit Minnesota Monday, October 3
