Are the Clemson Tigers getting the respect they deserve? Here is a team that is the only undefeated entry left in major college football; they were met with their sternest test in the Orange Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners and came out winning by 20 points, and yet they are underdogs against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the game where it is all at stake, officially titled the College Football Playoff national championship, scheduled for Monday night at 8:30 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. For this ultimate college showdown, Vietbet customers can put their wagers down even after the game has already kicked off, using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Extra.
Clemson vs Alabama - Vietbet NCAAF BETTING LINE:
In the college football betting odds posted on this game by the people at Vietbet, with reduced juice attached, Alabama is the favorite:
Alabama Crimson Tide -6.5 (-110)
Clemson Tigers +6.5 (+100)
Over 50.5 points -105
Under 50.5 points -105
Clemson is 14-0, with a point spread record of 7-5-2. Oklahoma was supposed to present them with a challenging defense, but all Clemson did was roll up 530 yards of offense, with five quarterback sacks, and at the same time render the Oklahoma running game useless. By the way, that was the TENTH straight game in which Clemson has topped the 500-yard mark.
Of course, the catalyst for that offensive attack is Deshaun Watson, the Heisman Trophy finalist who is one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the country. Watson has now hit 68% of his passes with 31 touchdowns, but he is a dangerous threat on the ground, not just a scrambler. Watson has not only scored dozen touchdowns rushing, but also has 1028 yards. In other words, he is much more dangerous to Alabama then Michigan State’s Connor Cook, who was literally a stationary target for the Crimson Tide in the 38-0 shutout Nick Saban’s team pitched in the Cotton Bowl.
Alabama has an imposing defense; there is absolutely no question about that. With the performance they turned in against the Spartans, they have now allowed only 2.3 yards per carry on the part of the opposition. Of course, Watson adds an extra dimension, because not only can Clemson get a special effort out of their tailback, Wayne Gallman (1469 yards, 5.5-yard average), but Alabama also will have a hard time telling what Watson is going to do on any given down. Naturally, it must be considered that he won’t be the only quarterback they have faced all season long with some mobility; certainly people like Joshua Dobbs of Tennessee, Dak Prescott of Mississippi State and Treon Harris of Florida possessed that kind of ability. Whether they did so to the degree Watson does is another question entirely.

Defensively, Clemson does a solid job of its own against the run, although by no means are they impenetrable. If you look at their schedule, you’ll see that the likes of Florida State, South Carolina and even Syracuse moved the ball with regularity. As Vietbet patrons know, Alabama has this year’s Heisman Trophy winner in Derrick Henry, who has rushed for over 2000 yards, but he was held only 75 against Michigan State, which dedicated itself to slowing him down first.
Clemson could conceivably do that as well, but they run the risk of getting burned by Jake Coker, who proved he could make opponents pay for that, as he completed 25 of his 30 passes for 286 yards against MSU. Clemson might have to pick its poison and see what happens.
This is certainly a very personal game for head coach Dabo Swinney, who not only attended Alabama, but was also part of a national championship team there in 1994. The last time the Tigers have won a national title, they were piloted by another Alabama alumnus, Danny Ford. Of course, Swinney has never been in a position where, as a head coach, he was playing for all the marbles. So the edge in experience will definitely have to go to Saban, who has already won four national titles – three at Alabama and one when he was at LSU.
