The big story in this quarterfinal clash concerns current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp facing off against his old club Dortmund and this series has now been dubbed the Jurgen Klopp derby. Klopp definitely knows his opponents well and that could give Liverpool a slight edge, even if it’s just psychological. Both teams have some injuries to deal with as Subotic is questionable for the home side while Joe Gomez, Danny Ings, Christian Benteke, Jordan Henderson and Jordan Rossiter are all expected to miss the contest for Liverpool.

The Reds last played at home on Saturday and the result was a 4-1 draw over Stoke City. The Reds currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League with 48 points from 13 wins, nine draws and nine losses. They’ve scored 50 goals and allowed 42 against and sit nine points behind fourth-place Manchester City and 24 behind first-place Leicester City. Dortmund sits in second place in the German Bundesliga with 68 points from 21 wins, five draws and three losses with a league-high 69 goals scored and 30 conceded. They’re now seven five points back of league-leading Bayern Munich and were held to a 2-2 draw on the road by Schalke 04 in their last outing on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel took over as manager of Dortmund when the 48-year-old Klopp left for Liverpool last October and the 42-year-old is hoping to lead Dortmund its first Europa League trophy.

Liverpool will advance to the semifinals with a 0-0 draw or a win. Dortmund will advance with a win or any draw by a 2-2 score or higher due to the away goals rule.
