Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United – Head to Head:
- These two clubs last met twice in the Premier League last season with West Ham winning 1-0 at home and Spurs winning their home outing 4-1. Overall, these two sides have met 203 times in the past with Tottenham winning 91, losing 61 and drawing the other 51. West Ham has won four of the last seven meetings with just two losses and a draw. However, the Hammers also have just five victories in the last 16 encounters.
Tottenham Hotspur – A Closer Look:
Tottenham is the only undefeated team in the Premier League, but has fallen back to fifth place. They have 21 points from five wins and six draws with 15 goals scored and a league-low six conceded. They enter the weekend three points behind fourth-place Arsenal and Manchester City Chelsea and five back of the league leaders Liverpool. Tottenham is winless in their last four Premier League games with four straight draws and hasn’t won a game in their last seven outings in all competitions with five draws and two defeats.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has some roster problems to deal with as midfielder Christian Eriksen and forwards Vincent Janssen and Dele Alli are all questionable. Defender Ben Davies isn’t expected back until early December and midfielder Mousa Dembele is doubtful along with defender Toby Alderweireld and forward Erik Lamela. The absence of injured striker Harry Kane has hurt since he led the Premier League in scoring last season with 25 goals, but he’s now back in the team.
West Ham United – A Closer Look:
West Ham enters the weekend in 17th place in the 20-team league with 11 points from three wins, two draws and six defeats. They’ve scored just 11 goals and have allowed 20 against. They’re just one point ahead of newly-promoted Hull City and the last relegation spot and are 15 points adrift of the league lead. The Hammers have just one road win this season, which was a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in another London derby. They’ve dropped matches to Chelsea, Manchester City, West Brom and Everton away from home.
Manager Slaven Bilic has some tough games ahead of him as his squad faces Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool after meeting Spurs and if he loses all of them there’s a good chance he’ll be out of a job. Bilic also has some injury problems as defender Reece Oxford is sidelined while defenders James Collins, Winston Reid and Arthur Masuaku are all questionable. Midfielder Gokhan Tore is still out while defender Sam Byram and forwards Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho are expected back soon.
Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United – Takeaway:
Again, it’s nice being the only unbeaten team in the league, but Tottenham needs to realize they’re dropping two points every time they draw. They’d be a lot better off losing one out of every three than drawing all three. In fact, three draws is the same as a win and two losses when it comes to points accumulated, so they need a win here to get back into the title race. West Ham also needs the points to keep out of the relegation zone.
