Dolphins vs Rams – CJ’s Take:

The Dolphins have won four games in a row, bringing their record to 5-4, which puts them at the front of all the teams that are competing for the second wild-card spot in the AFC. There is a pretty good reason they are where they are, and that is because of the threat of a running game, which had not been there in the early part of the season. This has had a trickle-down effect on the passing attack as well. The Rams won three of their first four games, at one point holding the lead in the NFC West, but they have now lost four out of their last five. Last week they traveled to the Meadowlands and benefited by the fact that the New York Jets had to make a late change in quarterback, so they pounded on a 9-6 victory in what was Bryce Petty’s first NFL start.

The Dolphins really found lightning in a bottle with Jay Ajayi at running back. Once this guy got out of Adam Gase’s doghouse, he was hell on wheels, with consecutive 200-yard games, and currently he has a 5.7-yard average on the season. He is the only Miami running back with more than 95 yards.

Now let’s talk about the residual effect of this. Within offensive line that is healthy, and Ryan Tannehill not having to shoulder all of the burden on offense, Tannehill has turned into a more efficient quarterback. Over the last four games he has not been intercepted, and has suffered only three sacks. That is a tremendous improvement, when you consider that Tannehill, from the time he came into the league, has been the most sacked quarterback in the National Football League.

VietBet patrons know that the Rams have their own quarterback questions; Case Keenum has eleven interceptions already, with four of those coming in a single game against the New York Giants. And the cries have gone out on the part of fans to let Jared Goff, the #1 overall pick in the draft, have a chance to take the reins at long last. But it appears as if head coach Jeff Fisher remains committed to his plan, which is to have Keenum keep the seat warm while Goff “learns.” In other words, there is a big adjustment to the pro game for a guy who has played in spread offenses in college, and he doesn’t want to throw Goff to the wolves too early.

If the Rams could get Todd Gurley going, that would be a tremendous boost. But for some reason, Gurley just hasn’t had a very good sophomore season, averaging only 3.1 yards per carry. That average pretty much held against the Jets, as he rushed 21 times for 64 yards. Los Angeles failed to score three times when they were inside the Jets 10-yard line, and that is most definitely a problem for them. They have converted only 42.9% of their red zone trips into touchdowns.

Next up for both teams:

  • Miami home to San Francisco Sunday, November 27
  • Los Angeles at New Orleans Sunday, November 27
