Liverpool – A Closer Look:

The Reds’ title hopes have basically gone down the drain now with their loss to relegation-zone Hull last week and their 1-1 draw with first-place Chelsea. The team is now in fifth place in the Premier League and are 13 big points behind the leaders. They’re also four points behind second-place Tottenham, three behind third-place Manchester City and one point back of fourth-place Arsenal. The only top contender they’re ahead of, just slightly is sixth-place Manchester United.

The squad has just one win in their past 10 games in all competitions along with five defeats and four draws. However, they’ve lost only six of their past 29 encounters in all competitions. Tottenham Hotspur – A Closer Look:

Tottenham enters this game on a 10-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League after their recent six-game winning run was snapped with a 2-2 away draw at Manchester City. Spurs now have 50 points on the season from 14 wins, eight draws and a league-low two defeats . They’ve scored 46 goals and conceded a league-low 16. They’re in second-place on their own, but are still nine points behind Chelsea.

Tottenham has four wins away from home this season along with six draws and two losses. They’ve scored 20 goals on their travels and allowed 11 against.

As far as injuries go, it appears that forward Erik Lamela and defender Jan Vertonghen are doubtful while defenders Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier are questionable along with forward Georges-Kevin Nkoudou. In addition, Tom Carroll was sold to Premier League side Swansea City for 4.5 million pounds in the January transfer window. Spurs didn’t acquire anybody, but several fringe players were sent out on loan to lower league clubs.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur – Takeaway:

It looks like Spurs is the only team with any hope of catching Chelsea and that’s a pretty faint one. They’ll need to take all three points here to keep that dream alive while Liverpool also needs them for a top-four finish.
