Giants vs Cowboys Odds and Sunday Night Football Preview

football 7 - Giants vs Cowboys Odds - 2018 Week 2 NFL Betting PreviewThe Dallas Cowboys got off to a slow start offensively in the opening game of the season, so there are definitely some kinks they have to work out. Can they do that in time to play the New York Giants on Sunday night? Even in defeat, the Giants were energized because their star rookie running back, Saquon Berkeley, delivered on a big play, which is what they were looking for. This game will kick off at 8:20 PM ET on NBC, and if you are a BetAnySports customer, you can place wagers even after the game has begun, as you access the state-of-the-art software from Live Betting Ultra.

Giants vs Cowboys Odds and Betting Preview

Everyone remembers that the Cowboys missed out on the playoffs last season, largely due to the six-game suspension of Ezekiel Elliott, and Dallas really didn’t have anything explosive to put in his place. Without the threat of a big running game, Dak Prescott was not nearly as effective. Against the Carolina Panthers, Elliott carried 15 times for 69 yards, and Prescott completed 19 of 29 passes for 170 yards. Those are pedestrian numbers, compared to what those two are capable of.

The Giants got a 68-yard touchdown run from Barkley in their 20-15 loss to Jacksonville, and if they can get something like that from him in every game, that would be splendid. But on all his other carries, the #2 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft averaged only 2.2 yards. The Giants’ special teams failed them late in the game, when Kaelin Clay muffed a punt, preventing them from having a chance to mount a last-minute drive.

Dallas also suffers from the absence of center Travis Frederick, the All-Pro who has an autoimmune disease that has affected his joints. Remember that the offensive line has long been a strength of this club, but that wasn’t the case last Sunday, as they allowed Prescott to be sacked six times. Also, the effect of losing to reliable veteran receivers – wide receiver Dez Bryant and tight end Jason Witten – is being felt. Yes, Cole Beasley had 74 yards in receptions, but veteran Alan Hurns (who was with Jacksonville last year) and rookie Michael Gallup had only one catch apiece.

New York hopes to exploit a Cowboy defensive front that gave up 147 rushing yards last week. It’s nice to get something spectacular at of Barkley, but they may need something more consistent. However, everybody was impressed by the play of Odell Beckham, who caught eleven passes for 111 yards against one of the toughest secondaries in the NFL. On the other side of the coin, tight end Evan Engram, who led the team in receptions last season and is extremely athletic, dropped three passes, and that has been an ongoing problem with him. And the Giants’ offensive line may have a ways to go. Ereck Flowers, the right tackle, was burned repeatedly by the Jaguars’ pass rush, and he was also called for two penalties on the first three offensive snaps. That’s not even close to what new head coach Pat Shurmur is looking for.

On balance, we like the depth in New York’s receiving corps, not to mention their big-play ability. And we are willing to take any points available in this NFC Clash.
