Eagles vs Seahawks Odds – NFL Betting Preview

Philadelphia (10-1 straight-up, 9-2 against the football pointspread) has had double-digit victories in each of its last five games, and they have scored at least 26 points in all of their victories. Could Carson Wentz, who was virtually unknown two years ago, be the odds-on favorite to win the most valuable player award in the NFL? Well, that possibility is being brought up, because he is the sure-handed leader for the team with the NFL’s best record. Wentz, who struggled last season at times without great weapons around him, has now find the right chemistry and the right balance and is buzzing along with 28 touchdown passes against only five interceptions. They are deep in the backfield and have gotten great contributions from Alshon Jeffery (14.4 yards per catch) and tight end Zach Ertz (55 catches, 639 yards).

Seattle (7-4 straight-up, 4-6-1 ATS) has lost both cornerback Richard Sherman and safety Kam Chancellor, and if they indeed get to the playoffs, those absences are going to be felt. So many people ask why wouldn’t they be felt against the genuine MVP candidate? Well, indeed they could be. So what they will have to do is to get some pressure on the quarterback, and the Seahawks are not known as a team that does a lot of blitzing.

Certainly the Eagles have put money in the pockets of backers, as they have covered eight games in a row. But let’s not forget that Jason Peters is out of action, and you know that Seattle coach Pete Carroll is going to direct a lot of pressure toward the left tackle position, which is currently being occupied by Halapoulivaati Vaitai. Wentz has been sacked with more frequency than Russell Wilson, so it’s not like his Philadelphia offensive line is indestructible.

Seattle’s leading rusher, by a wide margin, is Wilson, who has 401 yards and 6.2 yards per attempt. That is not what the original design was, and that’s going to be a problem for the Seahawks moving forward. Can Wilson handle all of this burden at once, going up against an Eagles defense that has allowed the opposition to convert only 28.6% of the time on third down? That’s one of the challenges that face the Seattle in this one.

At the same time, it is kind of unusual to see the Seahawks as this kind of home underdog, and we don’t mean to pick on the Eagles, but they have not beaten too many teams with a record over the .500 mark. In fact, a quick glance reveals only the Carolina Panthers on that list. So perhaps grabbing the points might be in your best interest.
