Chiefs vs Texans September 18th, 2016 - Week 2 NFL Odds and Betting Preview

football 46 - Chiefs vs Texans September 18th, 2016 - Week 2 NFL Odds and Betting PreviewThe Kansas City Chiefs showed tremendous heart last week in coming back from a three-touchdown deficit to beat the San Diego Chargers in overtime. So they have to be happy with that, although they know they have a very revenge-minded opponent on their hands this Sunday. The Houston Texans were shut out in the playoffs at home by Kansas City last season, and now they have come back with a new quarterback, wide receiver and running back as they play host to the Chiefs once again. Game time is 1 PM ET at NRG Stadium in Houston, and VietBet customers can watch the game on CBS and place real-time wagers while the contest is in progress, using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.

A Closer Look at the Kansas City Chiefs:

  • Season record: 1-0 SU,0-1 ATS
  • Kansas City is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games
  • Kansas City is 12-1 SU in their last 13 games
  • Kansas City is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on the road

The Chiefs had to play without Jamaal Charles last week, but that didn’t really matter, as Spencer Ware was seemingly everywhere. He had 70 yards on the ground and 129 receiving yards. It was a little out of character for Alex Smith to throw so much (48 times), but this team had to come back from a big deficit, and they managed to do it, forcing overtime, after which they scored a touchdown to end it by a 33-27 score.

Smith has been known to take a lot of sacks, as he is always very cautious about turning the ball over. Well, Houston put a lot of pressure on Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears last week, sacking him five times, and the big surprise was that JJ Watt didn’t have any of those sacks. Houston trailed going into the final period against Chicago, but then rallied for 23-14 win.

A Closer Look at the Houston Texans:

  • Season record: 1-0 SU,1-0 ATS
  • Houston is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Houston is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Houston’s last 6 games

Kansas City won twice in Houston last season, taking the season opener by a 27-20 score, and then racking up that 30-0 post-season win, in which they forced Brian Hoyer into four interceptions. That was truly a dark day for the Texans’ franchise, even though they had won the AFC South. Recognizing they had a problem under center, they went out and signed Brock Osweiler, who started seven games for the Denver Broncos last season, as a free agent. Osweiler was more than adequate last week, completing 22 out of his 35 passes. Lamar Miller, who came over as a free agent from the Miami Dolphins, contributed 106 yards on the ground, and Will Fuller, the rookie out of Notre Dame, caught five passes for 107 yards.

If you want to be optimistic about Houston’s chances, take a look at what the Chiefs did on defense last week. San Diego is not normally known as a team that gobbles up yardage on the ground, but they had 155 yards against the Kansas City defense. Miller looks like someone they can give a lot of carries to; as a matter fact, of the 31 attempts by Houston running backs last Sunday, he had 28 of them. So forget about the “running back by committee” in the Lone Star State.

Bettors who are interested in trends can see something positive on both sides in this one. Kansas City has emerged victorious in 11 straight regular-season games, while the Texans are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games in the regular season. But maybe revenge is the big factor here; after all, it was quite a humiliation in that stadium back in January. We obviously have not seen the best out of Watt, although he did hit the quarterback three times last week. Jadeveon Clowney, the former #1 pick in the draft, had one sack last week and will be taking aim at another former #1 overall selection (Smith). Could this be the year that Clowney really produces something?

Next up:

  • Kansas City home to New York Sunday, September 25
  • Houston at New England Thursday, September 22
