Buccaneers vs Cardinals September 18th, 2016 - Week 2 NFL Odds and Betting Preview

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued their mastery over the Atlanta Falcons last week, but we have a feeling this week they are going to have a tougher assignment on their hands. The Arizona Cardinals, who advanced to the NFC Championship Game last season, are really smarting from their loss to the New England Patriots, who were using a backup quarterback. So this could be a very ornery defense as they play host to the Bucs on Sunday, with the kickoff scheduled at 4:05 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. VietBet customers don’t have to stop wagering after the game kicks off, as they can take advantage of real time odds and test their skill while the game is in progress using the facilities of Live Betting Ultra.

A Closer Look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

  • Season record: 1-0 SU,1-0 ATS
  • Tampa Bay is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games
  • Tampa Bay is 1-4 SU in their last 5 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Tampa Bay’s last 5 games

Tampa Bay got a nice performance out of for Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, who seems to be maturing as an NFL quarterback. Winston completed 23 out of his 33 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns against Atlanta. Those four TD passes went to four different receivers. No, they did not get a big day out of Doug Martin, who had only 62 yards on the ground, but you just know there is some upside there.

Remember that Dirk Koetter is the new coach in Tampa Bay, being elevated to the head job after serving as offensive coordinator last season. He has been critical in the development of Winston so far, and it was probably a good decision on the part of Bucs’ management to keep a little continuity going. Winston is the kind of passer who will get the ball downfield, and indeed, he averaged 8.5 yards per attempt last week. His major target is Mike Evans, who had 99 yards on five receptions, and his size can present problems for anyone in an opposing secondary. Certainly we will see Patrick Peterson, Arizona’s All-Pro cornerback, trying to slow him down.

A Closer Look at the Arizona Cardinals:

  • Season record: 0-1 SU,0-1 ATS
  • Arizona is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games
  • Arizona is 10-3 SU in their last 13 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Arizona’s last 9 games

Arizona disappointed on defense against the Jimmy Garoppolo-led Patriot offense, allowing Tom Brady’s backup to achieve a 106.1 passer rating. These guys have the capability of getting some pressure on the passer (remember that Chandler Jones is a new acquisition), so we’ll see if they could rattle Winston and force him into some mistakes.

It goes without saying that the Cardinals have enough pass-catching talent to keep any defensive coordinator up at night. This will be a nice test for Vernon Hargreaves, who was the 11th pick in the draft (from the University of Florida) and who will have the responsibility of covering an Arizona speedster on any given down. Carson Palmer did not throw an interception last week, but his 271 passing yards were not enough to prevent New England from coming away with a 23-21 victory.

VietBet patrons have to notice that Tampa Bay continues to be very tough against opposition running attacks, and they gave up just 2.4 yards per carry against Atlanta. Linebacker Kwon Alexander had 17 tackles. Well, here comes David Johnson, the second-year man out of Northern Iowa, who was a darling on everybody’s fantasy football charts. Last week he had 89 yards rushing, including an explosive 45-yard run, and registered 43 yards on the receiving end as well. Chris Johnson only got one carry, so there is no question that David is the go-to guy in head coach Bruce Arians’ playbook.

Buccaneers vs Cardinals – Takeaway:

We expect this to be a close game, closer than the spread might indicate, and it could come down to the kicking game in what could be a shootout. Chandler Cantanzaro, who has been shaky at times, could have won the game last Sunday night but missed a field goal as time was running out. Tampa Bay went and spent a second-round draft pick on Roberto Aguayo out of Florida State, and he had a few nightmares in the pre-season.

Next up:

  • Tampa Bay home to Los Angeles Sunday, September 25
  • Arizona at Buffalo Sunday, September 25
