Chelsea vs Swansea City – Head to Head:

  • These two teams last met on September 11th in the Premier League and played to a 2-2 draw in Wales. They also played to a 2-2 draw in London last season with Swansea winning their home match 1-0. However, Swansea has won just three of the last 20 meetings along with seven draws and 10 losses. Chelsea’s last win was 5-0 away in January of 2015. The clubs have met just 32 times in the past with Chelsea winning 14, losing seven and drawing the other 11.

Chelsea – A Closer Look:

Chelsea is still in top spot in the Premier League with 19 wins, three draws and three defeats for 60 points with 52 goals for and league-low 18 against. The Blues have the best home record in the league with 11 wins and one loss at Stamford Bridge in league play this season with 33 goals for and seven against. Chelsea leads second-place Manchester City by eight points, third-place Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal by 10 points, fifth-place Liverpool by 11 and sixth-place Manchester United by 12 points.

The Blues are now unbeaten in their past eight games in all competitions after their 13-game winning streak was halted with a 2-0 away defeat to London neighbors Tottenham. The 13-straight victories was a new team record, but it was just one game short of Arsenal’s Premier League mark. Still, Chelsea has been beaten only twice since October 26th in all competitions. The team has seven wins, two draws and one loss in their last 10 league outings with 19 goals for and seven against.

As far as injuries go, manager Antonio Conte has a relatively healthy squad to choose from as both goaltender Thibaut Courtois and defender David Luiz are expected to be in the lineup. There are no other players on the injury list.

Swansea City – A Closer Look:

Swansea has improved lately with four wins in their past six games to dig themselves out of the relegation zone. They enter the contest in 15th place in the 20-team league with 24 points out of a possible 75 after 25 matches. They have seven wins, three draws and 15 losses with 31 goals scored and 54 allowed. Swansea is four points ahead of 18th-place Hull City and the relegation zone.

Swansea has three wins, a draw and eight defeats away from home in league play this season with 13 goals for and 26 against. In their past 10 league games, they have four wins and six losses with 12 goals scored and 23 conceded. The team has pulled up its socks since Paul Clement took over during the Christmas period, but they’ll need to keep it up to stay out of the relegation zone.

Clement has a few injury concerns to deal with though as midfielder Leon Britton is questionable while midfielder Nathan Dyer is out for the season with an Achilles injury. In addition, midfielder Sung-Yueng Ki and forward Jefferson Montero are both expected to be out for two or three more weeks.

Chelsea vs Swansea City – Takeaway:

Chelsea doesn’t have the league wrapped up yet and Swansea isn’t that far ahead of the relegation zone so these three points are crucial for both clubs.
