soccer 25 - Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City February 26th, 2017 - English Premier League Betting PreviewTottenham Hotspur’s Premier League title chances are slim since they’re 10 points behind league-leading Chelsea, but they’ll be aiming to narrow that gap when they host Stoke City at White Hart Lane in London this Sunday, February 26th. Spurs are coming off of a 2-2 home draw against Gent in a Europa League match on Thursday after playing most of it with 10 men following a red card to Dele Alli. Spurs are now out of European competition as they lost 3-2 on aggregate after dropping a 1-0 decision in Belgium in the first leg. Meanwhile, Stoke beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at home in league action back on February 11th in their last match.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City – Head to Head:

  • These two teams last met on September 10th in the Premier League with Tottenham winning 4-0 in Stoke. Spurs also won 4-0 in Stoke last season and the teams played to a 2-2 draw in London. The clubs have met 91 times in the past with Tottenham winning 45, losing 26 and drawing the other 20. Tottenham has won five of the last 12 meetings along with three draws and four losses. Stoke’s last win was 3-0 at home in league action in May of 2015.

Tottenham Hotspur – A Closer Look:

Tottenham’s 10-match Premier League unbeaten sting was snapped with a 2-0 loss at Anfield to Liverpool in their last Premier League game. That defeat saw them fall to third position on the table with 50 points from 14 victories, eight draws and three defeats. Tottenham has 46 goals for this campaign and has allowed a shared league-low 18 against with Chelsea. They’re still 10 points back of Chelsea in the standings and trail second-place Manchester City by two points.

Tottenham is also level with fourth-place Arsenal on points, but have a better goal differential, and is one point ahead of fifth-place Liverpool and two points up on sixth-place Manchester United. Spurs have 14 wins in their past 28 games in all competitions along with seven draws and seven losses and have won 12 of their past 18 contests in all competitions.

Tottenham has 10 wins at home in league play this season with two draws and no defeats with 26 goals scored and five conceded. Spurs have seven wins, two draws and one loss in their last 10 league contests with 22 goals for and seven against. On the injury front, defender Danny Rose and forward Erik Lamela are both doubtful for the game against Stoke.

Stoke City – A Closer Look:

Stoke enters the weekend in ninth place in the Premier League with just 32 points out of a possible 75 after 25 games. They have eight wins, eight draws and nine defeats with 30 goals for and 36 against. Stoke has three victories, four draws and three losses in their past 10 league contests with 13 goals scored and 14 allowed.

Away from home, they have three wins, three draws and six losses with 14 goals for and 21 against. Stoke is 16 points behind sixth-place Manchester United so don’t have a realistic shot at the Europa League and they’re 12 points ahead of 18th-place Hull City, so relegation doesn’t seem to be a problem either. As usual, the club will have another mediocre season and end up somewhere around mid-table.

Manager Mark Hughes has a few injuries to deal with heading into White Hart Lane. Forward Xherdan Shaqiri and defender Geoff Cameron are both questionable while goaltender Jack Butland is still on the sidelines and midfielder Stephen Ireland could miss the rest of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City – Takeaway

Tottenham can’t afford a loss as they could fall 13 points behind Chelsea and could lose their top-four status. Stoke isn’t going anywhere this season as a mid-table finish is in the cards. They’d be happy with a point while Spurs need all three.
