2018 Kansas City Chiefs Odds and AFC West Betting Preview

Kansas City Chiefs - 2018 Kansas City Chiefs Odds and AFC West Betting PreviewIf their new quarterback does not come through big, the Kansas City Chiefs’ season will be in danger of looking very much like one of “rebuilding,” which is not the reason they hired Andy Reid in the first place. But there is no question that there is a transition, and they are relying on a second-year player to grow up quickly and lead them back into contention. VietBet customers can be excused if they are a bit skeptical about this.

When the Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes out of Texas Tech a year ago, they did so with the idea that he was going to be the “quarterback of the future.” And they must have figured sooner rather than later. Knowing that the Washington Redskins might be in need of a quarterback, with the pending departure of Kirk Cousins, the Chiefs pulled off a deal with Washington that sent Alex Smith to the nation’s capital. This is an interesting development, if for no other reason that Smith led the NFL in passing efficiency last season. But honestly, there had to be some contemplation as to how far Kansas City could go with him at the helm. They were crushed by their second-half collapse in the playoffs against Tennessee, and that might have been the last straw.

Mahone’s is known as somebody with a strong arm who makes quick decisions, not to mention someone who isn’t afraid to get the ball down the field, and the Chiefs are genuinely excited to move ahead with him. One of the moves they made in the off-season was to bring in Sammy Watkins, who has had injury issues the last couple of seasons, but he’ll be a nice complement for Tyreke Hill (who emerged as a receiving threat after scaring people as a kick returner) and tight end Travis Kelce if he can stay healthy.

The Chiefs went heavy on defense in the draft, selecting defensive end Breeland Speaks of Ole Miss in the second round and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi in the third. There is some question as to whether Eric Berry (Achilles injury) will be good to go this season, and another All-Pro, Marcus Peters, is with the Rams now, so they brought some free agent defensive backs in. They also got Kendall Fuller from the Redskins in the Smith trade, and he’s very promising. They also picked up Anthony Hitchens, who signed a five-year, $45 million contract to move over from Dallas, who wil replace Derrick Johnson at linebacker. Dontari Poe was one of the other big losses, as the big defensive lineman went off to Carolina.

What we have here with the Chiefs is a team that has lost eleven of their last 12 playoff games, and definitely in need of some kind of repeat from Kareem Hunt, who led the league in rushing and was the sreal of the 2017 draft. It will be difficult to pull off, because invariably, Mahomes will make more mistakes than his predecessor.
