2018 New York Jets Odds and AFC East Preview

New York Jets - 2018 New York Jets Odds and AFC East PreviewLast season was not necessarily a bad one for the New York Jets, considering what most of the media thought they would do. Todd Bowles took advantage of very low expectations, as some writers were speculating this team might even go 0-16. Actually, the Jets were quite competitive, winning five games and finding themselves in a position to win a few more, if they could only learn how to “finish.” And in 2018, VietBet customers are very curious as to whether they will see the full transition over to rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. Of course, Darnold, who was chosen with the third pick in the draft, is this team’s quarterback for the long-term. But how soon will he start? There is a new offensive coordinator in place – Jeremy Bates – and he will likely play things by ear.

2018 New York Jets Odds and Betting Preview

This is a team that made some upgrades on the defensive side of the football but had to say goodbye to Muhammed Wilkerson, who was not necessarily the most positive influence in the locker room. The Jets were 25th in the NFL in total defense last season and 28th in offense. So without question, there are massive improvements to be made on both sides of the ball. Whoever plays quarterback, we are looking at a transition year.

The Jets, interestingly enough, were a great value for their backers when playing at the Meadowlands, compiling a 6-1-1 ATS record at home. Sometimes those things have a way of evening out, but the Jets may still be a team with the “buy” sign on them if they can confound expectations once more.

Darnold looks NFL-ready, but there are a couple of things that might delay his occupation of the starting role. Josh McCown, the journeyman who did a fine job in 2017, was re-signed and will be back. The is probably the guy the inside track on being the “seat-warmer” until Darnold is ready. But there is another player who is interested in scuttling those plans.

When the Minnesota Vikings signed Kirk Cousins to a free-agent contract, it made Teddy Bridgewater expendable, and the former Louisville quarterback, who has missed the greater part of the last two seasons with a knee injury, was scooped up by the Jets. He is the wild-card here; if you remember, he led the Vikings to a playoff spot and has made an appearance in the Pro Bowl. He is not to be underestimated when it comes to this quarterback battle. And if he wins it, and is healthy, he can make things pretty interesting.

Elsewhere, the Jets acquired Isaiah Crowell in order to add some depth to the running back spot, and if Thomas Rawls, the former Seattle Seahawk, can stay healthy, this will be a nice “committee” for them to work with. Wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, the former starting quarterback with the Oakland Raiders, has carved out a nice career for himself as a wide receiver, but when he went to Washington last season he never really found his place. Bowles and Bates hope he can make a nice complement to Robbie Anderson and Jermaine Kearse in the receiver corps.

With a developing secondary, and these interesting additions on offense, we wouldn’t be shocked if the Jets were able to land on top of Buffalo and Miami for second place in the AFC East. But it’s a long shot that they could possibly contend for a wild-card spot.
