Week 2 NFL Betting Preview - Seahawks vs Packers on SNF

Packers Want Payback Over Seahawks at Lambeau

The Seattle Seahawks did not want to have to come into Lambeau Field with a loss under their belts, particularly as they were trying to make up for massive disappointment that was suffered last season. But that might not have been anything compared to the trauma the Green Bay Packers went through last year as they went up to the Emerald City and blew a late lead in such bizarre fashion in the game that determined the eventual NFC representative in the Super Bowl. So they are primed for this rematch, which will take place Sunday night at 8:30 PM ET on NBC. In their season opener, the Packers went through some anxious moments against the Chicago bears, but they eventually prevailed 31-23 and covered the six-point football pointspread. They got some really good balance, actually running the ball more than they threw it, and they were able to make up for the loss of wide receiver Jordy Nelson. The Seahawks came back from a deficit to take the lead against the St. Louis Rams, but then let the Rams come back during regulation to tie it up and then kick a field goal in overtime. Russell Wilson and the offense failed on the ensuing possession to give the Rams the 34-31 victory.

So the stage is set, as we have a Seattle team seeking redemption, while Green Bay would love to have a little payback.

Nelson, as most NFL bettors already know, is out for the year, and one of the moves the Packers made quickly was to re-acquire wide receiver James Jones. That was wise, since he knew the playbook already from seven years in Green Bay and could step right in. That’s exactly what he did, with two touchdown catches. Rodgers had three TD passes, but in terms of the raw numbers, he had a modest day, with only 189 yards. But the Pack ran the ball 30 times, while passing on only 23 occasions.

It was indeed frustrating for the Seahawks to lose another one at St. Louis, especially as it went to overtime. As all BetAnySports patrons know, they were the hard-luck losers to New England in the Super Bowl when Wilson threw an ill-advised pass on what might have been an ill-advised play call at the one-yard line with time running out. There has been much speculation as to how much of a psychological effect that loss had.

On the injury front, it looks as if the Packers are going to be making an adjustment at the linebacker position, as second-year man Sean Barrington is out for the year with a broken foot and will be replaced by rookie Jake Ryan. Also, the team lost a key member of the offensive line when Brian Baluga was ruled out with a knee injury.

For Seattle, Kam Chancellor isn’t hurt, but he is still holding out for a renegotiation of his contract, which means that the Pro Bowl safety, who is one of the people who gives the ‘Hawks their physical “brand,” is not available here.
