The Denver Broncos struggled on offense last week, and there are some people, among them some BetAnySports customers, who feel that is a reflection of the decline of Peyton Manning. On Thursday night the Broncos, who were outstanding in the first week of action, line up against the Kansas City Chiefs in action on CBS that begins at 8:25 PM ET at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The NFL betting continues with Live Betting Extra, which enables wagers on the side, total and various props while the game is actually in progress.

The Broncos survived on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, despite just 219 total yards of offense. Manning hit 24 out of 40 passes for 150 yards and an interception, and missed open receivers on several occasions. Interestingly enough, Denver had over 37 minutes of possession, yet it took an interception in the end zone on a final Baltimore drive to seal the 19-13 victory.

The Chiefs had a solid effort on Sunday, at least for three quarters of the game. They led the Houston Texans 27-9 at the half, then held off a mild Texans rally to preserve the 27-20 win.

Manning has never lost to the Chiefs in six outings as Denver’s quarterback.

The Broncos, of course, fired head coach John Fox right after their playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and wound up replacing him with Gary Kubiak, who has a long-standing relationship with the team’s football boss, John Elway. Kubiak comes to the table with some offensive ideas, naturally, and has installed a new scheme that Manning hasn’t completely absorbed, according to some observers.

is there a conflict? Who knows. But it involves new routes and new blocking patterns, and it’s no longer a situation where Manning is, in effect, the offensive coordinator. Certainly the Baltimore defense played well, but the Broncos averaged only 3.2 yards per attempt, and CJ Anderson, who came out of nowhere to secure a Pro Bowl spot last season, had 29 yards on twelve carries.

Some BetAnySports patrons have heard that Manning is still bothered by injuries to his hand, and that is affecting his throwing motion. In two games against the Chiefs last year, Manning completed 38 of 60 passes for 421 yards and five TD’s without an interception.

Alex Smith had a nice day on Sunday, going 22 of 33 with three touchdowns. But what is worth noting about it is that none of those TD throws went to a wide receiver. Not one Kansas City wide receiver caught a touchdown pass all of last year. Yes, the Chiefs acquired Jeremy Maclin in the off-season. But they lost Dwayne Bowe, so how much of a net gain is that? If Smith, who doesn’t go that far down the field to begin with, is limited here, he’ll be vulnerable to the Denver defense, which held the Ravens to 100 passing yards and two-for-13 conversions on third downs.
