The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers went through a harrowing experience at the hands of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs last year, suffering their worst conference loss in 34 years. Now they are geared up for revenge as they play in front of a supercharged atmosphere on Thursday night at Houchens-Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, KY. Game time is 8 PM ET, with television provided by Fox Sports-1. Last year’s meeting was embarrassing for WKU, as they went to Ruston and were beaten 59-10, in a game where they turned the ball over five times. In the Bulldogs’ 62-15 romp over FCS-level Southern in the opener, Driskel completed twelve of 15 passes for 274 yards and four TD’s in less than a half of play.

Was Southern much of a barometer as an opponent? No; the Bulldogs were ahead 52-8 at the half. The real benefit to that game was the opportunity it provided for coach Skip Holtz to rest the starters for at least a half, which is critical when there is a short week to get ready. Louisiana Tech also got a strong game out of Kenneth Dixon, who had 1299 rushing yards last season and scored 22 touchdowns from scrimmage. Holtz’s team lost 26-23 to Marshall in the Conference USA championshp game, and then proceeded to beat Illinois 35-18 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Obviously with a team that ranked 13th in the nation in scoring, the support system is in place to help Driskel.
