Raiders vs Cardinals Odds – Week 11 Pro Football Betting Preview
The Oakland Raiders were a very happy organization some months ago, when it was announced that they had signed Jon Gruden to a ten-year contract to return to the coaching lines, and would eventually usher the team into a new era in Las Vegas. But right now we’d be curious as to whether owner Mark Davis (son of Al) wonders if he made a mistake. Not with the Vegas thing, mind you, but with the move to give Gruden the big money and a full decade. For now, Gruden doesn’t have much to worry about in terms of job security, but he’s got a huge job on his hands in getting his team to be competitive. They’ll continue that effort on Sunday, as they go to the desert to play the Arizona Cardinals in a game that begins at 4:05 PM ET at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

Raiders vs Cardinals Odds – CJ’s Take
The season hasn’t gone as expected for either of these teams. The Cardinals made their own new coaching hire in the off-season, as former Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Wilks came aboard. And Sam Bradford was signed to keep the seat warm while first-round draft pick Josh Rosen got the lay of the land in the NFL.
Well, Bradford was a disaster, and was subsequently released. Rosen was pressed into service, and while he has gotten some experience, he has also taken his lumps; he’s completed 56% of his passes and been sacked 21 times. The Cardinals have been awful converting on third down (just 29%), and that is one reason they have managed to hold onto the ball for an average of just 27 minutes a game.
Since the Cards’ offense wasn’t working, the guy who had to go was the coordinator, Mike McCoy, who is an old school mind in a new school world, and suffered his third firing in three seasons. What was needed was some new thinking, and maybe Arizona is getting that out of Byron Leftwich, the former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback who has decided, among other things, to stop sending running back David Johnson into the line and let him get out in space. The result was 183 yards from scrimmage last week in the 26-14 loss to Kansas City. Rosen is still a work in progress, but Johnson is highly-regarded enough to be a pre-season darling of fantasy owners the last two years.
The good news for Rosen is that Oakland, which traded Khalil Mack right before the season opener, doesn’t get a pass rush, compiling just eight sacks. And while once the Raiders once had an offensive line they could be proud of, they have allowed Derek Carr to be sacked 29 times.
So what does it mean to be “tanking”? When you’re the Raiders, and you can’t rush the passer or get any dynamism out of your receiver corps, yet you have traded the defensive player of the year, as well as your top wide receiver (Amari Cooper), you’re not putting your best foot forward to win. Gruden is in a power struggle within his own organization, and since he has the backing of the owner, he’s not going to lose. Therefore the tanking is more a part of the “long-term plan.” Wilks doesn’t have that same level of job security, and maybe that’s a factor in this game. Another factor is that Oakland is giving up 6.7 yards per play, which is the most in the league – even more than the Cincinnati Bengals, who may set an NFL record for most yards allowed.
The Cards have gone 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven. but still, should we be comfortable laying this many points with them?
