The New Orleans Saints Want to End Nasty Slide vs the Pittsburgh Steelers
By Charles Jay
The New Orleans Saints are coming off three consecutive losses at home, after having compiled a 20-game winning streak at the Superdome with Sean Payton on the sidelines. That is a very bad sign as this team moves forward. So what is a GOOD sign? Well, the fact that their rivals in the NFC South just keep losing, which means that this team is tied for the division lead coming into its 12th game of the year, which won’t be an easy assignment, as they have to travel to play the Pittsburgh Steelers in pro football betting action that is slated to get underway at 1 PM ET at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
New Orleans certainly will not have the scheduling advantage. They are coming off a short week, having played on Monday night against Baltimore, while the Steelers had a bye week. Payton is not happy about that state of affairs, as he has already had to play a Thursday night game after competing in the Sunday night contest. But there’s nothing you can do about it at the moment. The Saints have lost four of their five games on the road (2-3 ATS), although three of the losses were close. On an overall basis, they are 4-7, both straight-up and against the football pointspread, while Pittsburgh is 7-4 straight-up and 5-6 against the number.
Pittsburgh has won four of its last five games and finds itself very much in the thick of things when it comes to both the wild-card race and the AFC North lead. Currently the Cincinnati Bengals, with a 7-3-1 mark, are the leaders. Having the bye week enabled Pittsburgh a better shot at having some of its most useful defensive players back in the lineup.
In the pro football betting lines that have been established on the Saints vs Steelers game by the people at Vietbet, the Steelers are laying points at home:
Pittsburgh Steelers -5
New Orleans Saints +5
Over 54.5 points -110
Under 54.5 points -110
The Saints are technically the second-place team in the South division, because they lost head-to-head against the Atlanta Falcons. Still, they have thrown away a number of chances to win games. For example, they have lost three of those road games by a total of six points. And this may be a tougher road game than usual.
The Steelers defeated the Tennessee Titans 27-24 in their last outing, and since they were last seen, they are minus a running back. LeGarrette Blount appeared to have thrown a tantrum on the sidelines for his lack of playing time and left the field for the locker room before the game was over. As Vietbet patrons know, that did not sit well with coach Mike Tomlin or Steeler management, and furthermore, they consider Blount to be a bad influence on their new star running back, Le’Veon Bell, so they just went ahead and released him. Bell is probably worth that move; he had a 204-yard effort against Tennessee, bringing his total to 951 yards on the ground, which, when added to this 484 receiving yards, makes him unquestionably one of the most valuable players in the NFL this season. Another guy who fits that category is wide receiver Antonio Brown, who has already caught 88 passes for 1161 yards. Ben Roethlisberger (68% accuracy, 24 touchdowns) can spread it around, as he is discovering more weapons in his lineup as the season progresses. And one of those weapons is wideout Martavis Bryant, who is averaged 20 yards per catch.
Vietbet customers know that the Achilles’ heel for the Saints has to be its defense. They allow opponents to convert 48% on third-down, as well as 8.1 yards per passing attempt. So things could be wide open for Roethlisberger on Sunday.
