The Patriots had a bit of a breather last week, as they defeated Tennessee 33-16, but they continue to experience the injury bug. The backfield has been almost completely wiped out, with Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount both out of action. Now the Pats have reached out to the “street” to sign Steven Jackson, the former Rams running back who has over 11,000 career rushing yards. And, of course, between quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick, they seem to be able to improvise with some success, no matter what combination of players they have at their disposal.

The Jets have been on a bit of a roll, winning four straight games, including an ugly 19-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last Saturday. But even if they end up with an 11-5 record, they could still get shut out of the playoffs, if the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs wind up with the same record. So not only do they have to win, they have to get some help as well.

Despite the fact that the Jets intercepted four passes last week, they still were not able to create any distance between themselves and the struggling Cowboys. In fact, they had to come from behind to beat Dallas, as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 132 yards in the fourth quarter. And they are lucky that they had been winning games without really big contributions from Chris Ivory, who had only 41 yards last week. While it is true that he has 951 yards on the season, he did much of his damage during the first four or five games of the campaign.

New England is, of course, led by Tom Brady, and Vietbet customers know that he would be getting a lot more MVP consideration if not for the exploits of Cam Newton in Carolina. But Brady’s stats are better, with 4405 yards and 35 touchdowns, as well as only six interceptions. He has also been dealing with periodic absences of his receivers, but tight end Rob Gronkowski is back in the lineup and could break his own record for most receiving yards by a tight end.

The Jets are still the NFL’s best defense when it comes to preventing touchdowns in the red zone, surrendering six points only 33% of the time an opponent gets into that territory. They are fourth best on offense in the same situation. But one of the underrated things in this game is the Patriots’ defense, which has allowed only 19 touchdown passes and just 36% success on third down.
