Packers vs Falcons Odds – CJ’s Take:

The Packers came up with a 17-9 victory over the Seahawks last week, keeping Russell Wilson very much under wraps. Wilson is good, but he doesn’t put up the same kind of numbers as Matt Ryan, last year’s Most Valuable Player, who riddled the Green Bay secondary in two meetings last season. It should be noted that the Packers were thinned out in the defensive backfield with injury issues, and they appear to be healthier this time around.

The Falcons have undergone something of a transition, as they had to bid adieu to offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who took the head coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers. They replaced him with Steve Sarkisian, who has gone through a personal odyssey that saw him lose his job at USC due to “personal problems” and then wind up as a consultant for the Alabama Crimson Tide, taking the offense over for the national championship game when Lane Kiffin took the head job at Florida Atlantic.

This will be the third straight meeting in less than a calendar year that has taken place in Atlanta. The Falcons won a very wild one in the regular season by a score of 33-32, and then blasted the Packers in the NFC title game, getting off to a 31-0 lead and cruising to a 44-21 victory and a spot in the Super Bowl. Ryan was able to exploit that Green Bay secondary, which simply could not cover enough ground. Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers hopes that with more players available, and a scheme that include some wrinkles, including what he calls a “Nitro” package, he can affect a difference.

The Green Bay stop unit held Seattle to twelve first downs and 225 yards. And maybe some BetAnySports patrons will rationalize that the jury may be out on the insertion of Sarkisian onto the Atlanta coaching staff; they were the highest-scoring team in the league last season, and they managed just 23 points against the Chicago Bears last week.

Ryan had seven TD passes without an interception in the two meetings with the Packers last season, and he is 8-1, both straight-up and against the spread, in home openers. Keep in mind that Green Bay did sometimes underachieve on the road in 2016, losing straight-up at Tennessee, Minnesota and Washington.
