Undisciplined Jets Lay Points at Home to Bears. NFL Odds for Week 3 are up at Vietbet!
By Charles Jay
The New York Jets lost an 18-point lead last Sunday. The Chicago Bears came back from a 17-point deficit. Maybe that tells a tale about the character of each team heading into Monday Night football action at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, when these teams clash at 8:30 PM ET on ESPN.
Chicago comes into this game with some offensive line problems, as they may be without a couple of starters there. That could provide an open invitation for the Jets, who come hard from the outside with Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson. But VietBet customers may be questioning this team’s psyche right now after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Meanwhile, the Bears have a pass-run ratio of about 2.3-to-1, and why not? Jay Cutler has four receivers, including running back Matt Forte, who have had 100 yards in catches so far. The Jets are a bit more balanced (61 passes, 73 rushing plays) and they hope that is the kind of thing that can play to their advantage.
NFL odds are posted for Week 3 at VietBet and the Jets are slight favorites at home:
New York Jets -2.5 (-120)
Chicago Bears +2.5 (+100)
Over 45.5 Points -110
Under 45.5 Points -110
The Jets looked like a million bucks last Sunday; that is, until they realized they were playing the Green Bay Packers. Or at least that is the way it appears. They got off to a 21-3 lead and then started to make mistakes. They also forgot how to play defense. And they let their anger get the best of them. Wilkerson received a personal foul penalty that was egregious enough to get him ejected. And that was just part of it.
Assistant coach Marty Mornhinweg called a time out, even though he wasn’t supposed to, as the Jets were snapping the ball on a fourth down play late in the game, and that nullified a touchdown pass by Geno Smith. That was the crushing blow, as those VietBet customers who were taking a full touchdown could do no better than to get a push.
But there is still hope for these Jets as they look to cover the Monday night football odds, even though Smith seems to still be mistake-prone. There is no question that the Bears were able to take advantage of Kaepernick’s mistakes in the 28-20 win over San Francisco, as they most certainly have the passing attack to strike quickly. Jay Cutler has access to at least three wide receivers at a time; Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall are a little sore form minor injuries, but there has also been a recent arrival in Santonio Holmes, who had spent four years with the Jets and gained a reputation for being a pain in the neck in the clubhouse.
The Jets want to run the ball; VietBet patrons know that. And it is indeed hard to trust the Chicago defense, which was dead last in the league last season against the run and is allowing 5.4 yards a carry in the early going.
On the other hand, the Jets are going to horribly vulnerable to the pass if they can’t put Cutler on his back or at least hurry him up. That is because the secondary is still weak and without depth. Dee Milliner returned to action last week and he promptly got burned on an 80-yard Aaron Rodgers-to-Jordy Nelson touchdown hookup, and was removed from the action. But he is back in there this week. Maybe we are looking at a high-scoring game?
