Elite 8 Betting Preview: Oregon vs Kansas – CJ’s Take:

Kansas has blown away all three opponents they have faced thus far, and they have done so by a combined 90 points. The last team to feel its wrath was a Purdue Boilermakers, who went down by a 98-66 score. The strange thing about these last two games is that Kansas looked like it was in a struggle for a while, but they just broke away as if they had retro rockets. The Jayhawks have won at least a share of their conference regular-season title 13 straight seasons, and now, with these three victories, they are 31-4 straight-up and 15-18 against the basketball point spread.

Oregon has had to deal with the injury loss of its 6-10 center, Chris Boucher, and that was considerable. Remember that Boucher was a 63% shooter from two-point range and was such a proficient intimidator in the paint that he was ranked 10th in the nation in blocked shot percentage. Nonetheless, they have adjusted and advanced to this point with a 69-68 victory over very strong Michigan squad on Thursday. The Ducks are now 32-5 straight-up and 21-13 ATS.

Kansas has the possibility of a bit of a mismatch at the point guard position, as their senior, Frank Mason, is a legitimate player of the year candidate, while Oregon starts a freshman in Payton Prichard. The Jayhawks also have perhaps the best player on the floor in 6-8 freshman Josh Jackson, but we warn you that with just 6% at the free throw line, he could quickly go from an asset to a liability in the latter stages. Of course, the Ducks would offer an argument that THEY have the best player on the floor, whether that is forward Dillon Brooks or guard Tyler Dorsey. Brooks certainly has the reputation, as he was considered a Pac 12 player of the year hopeful at the beginning of the season. He averages more than 16 points per game and takes almost one-third of his team shots while he is on the floor.

But VietBet patrons who have watched this tournament, and the Pac 12 conference tournament before it, realize that they go-to guy for Oregon at the moment is Dorsey, the sophomore out of Los Angeles who has now scored at least 20 points in six consecutive games. He had 20 against Michigan and is hitting at a brisk 41.4% from three-point range for the season.

And surprisingly, Oregon, even without Boucher, has done enough on the boards to keep playing. Jordan Bell has to be given a lot of credit for this. The 6-9 forward, who blocks more than two shots per game, led a front line that held Michigan to just TWO offensive rebounds on Thursday night, which is rather incredible. Kansas has rebounded 34.2% of its own misses, so there will be some challenge for the Ducks in that area. If they win, they will have the first Final Four appearance since the very first NCAA Tournament, back in 1939.
