Cubs, Pirates Clash on Wednesday
The Pittsburgh Pirates are trying to stay in the hunt for the playoffs, but they have a tough challenge on Wednesday when they host the Chicago Cubs for Game 3 of a four-game series at 7:05 PM ET in Pittsburgh.
The Pirates will trot out Jameson Taillon to face the 2015 Cy Young winner, Jake Arrieta, who’s aiming for his 19th win of the season. Taillon was batted around for four runs and eight hits in a 10-5 loss in his only previous meeting with the Cubs.

In his last start, Arrieta (18-7, 2.85) pitched a 5-0 shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals. The reigning Cy Young winner pitched a five-hitter over 7 innings, striking out 10 with one walk. He heads into this game with a solid record against the Pirates this season – 3-1 in five starts with a 3.78 ERA. On the road this season, Arrieta is 11-2 in 14 starts with a 3.11 ERA.

Jameson Taillon (4-4, 3.49) took a no-decision in a 6-5 win at home over Washington, giving up three runs on six hits over five innings, striking out seven with no walks. However, the 24-year-old struggled against the Cubs in his lone start against them, lasting just four innings while giving up four runs on eight hits in a 10-5 loss in Chicago on June 19. At home, Taillon is 1-2 in 10 starts this season, posting an ERA of 3.00.
