One of the most attractive English Premier League games of the weekend will take place at Old Trafford on Sunday, December 11th where Manchester United will host Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Tottenham rebounded for their only league loss of the season by smashing Swansea City 5-0 at home at White Hart Lane last weekend and then beat CSKA Moscow 3-1 at Wembley on Wednesday.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur – Head to Head:

These two clubs met twice in league action last season with Man United winning 1-0 at Old Trafford in the season opener in August and Spurs winning their home match at White Hart Lane 3-0 in April. The teams each have two wins, two draws and two defeats in their past six meetings. Overall, these two sides have met 184 times in the past with Manchester United winning 87, losing 49 and drawing the other 48. Tottenham has won just three of the past 34 meetings with eight draws and 23 losses.

Manchester United – A Closer Look:

Man United remains in sixth place in the Premier League after 14 games with 21 points from five wins, six draws and three defeats. United has 19 goals to their name and has allowed 16 against. They won their first three league outings of the 2016/17 season, but have just two victories in their past 11 league games along with three losses and five draws and have just one win in the last eight. However, they have eight wins in their past 17 games in all competitions and are unbeaten in the last seven with four wins and three draws. These include four victories in the Europa League as well as beating Northampton, Manchester City and West Ham in the League Cup. United has six draws in their past eight league games including four in a row at home, against West Ham, Burnley, Stoke, and Arsenal.

Man United enters the weekend 13 points behind league-leading Chelsea and nine points back of fourth-place Man City and a European Champions League spot. United still hasn’t managed to win a Premier League match against a team above them in the standings this season. They were beaten by Man City and Chelsea and drew with Liverpool and Arsenal and will now try their luck against Tottenham. Manager Jose Mourinho has a relatively healthy squad to choose from other than forward James Wilson who may miss the entire season after undergoing knee surgery. In addition, defender Chris Smalling is questionable.

Tottenham Hotspur – A Closer Look:

Tottenham was the Premier League’s only undefeated team two weeks ago, but was then beaten 2-1 by Chelsea on the road at Stamford Bridge. They enter the weekend in fifth place with 27 points from seven wins, six draws and the lone defeat. They’ve scored 24 goals and allowed a league-low 10 against. Tottenham is just three points behind fourth-place Man City and Liverpool, four back of second-place Arsenal and seven behind league-leading Chelsea. Spurs have just three wins in their past 12 games in all competitions along with five draws and four defeats.

They have two wins, four draws and a loss in Premier League away games this season, but haven’t won on the road since September 24th. Spurs Manager Mauricio Pochettino has some roster problems to deal with as defender Ben Davies isn’t expected back until early December and forwards Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela are both questionable for the game. Spurs are six points ahead of Man United, but seven behind first-place Chelsea and three behind fourth-place Man City.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur – Takeaway:

This is a huge three points for both teams if they have any realistic chance at challenging for the league crown. They also need the points if they hope to finish in the top four and reach the European Champions League next season.
