AS Monaco – A Closer Look:

Monaco won their group with three wins, two draws and a loss and finished ahead of runners-up Bayer Leverkusen. They scored nine goals and allowed seven against. Monaco entered last weekend’s French Ligue 1 games in first place with a slim three-point lead over PSG and was five points in front of Nice. The club is hoping to reach the Champions League quarterfinals for the second time in the past three years.

They reached the 2015 final four after beating English Premier League side Arsenal on the controversial away-goals rule in the round of 16. Monaco has beaten English opposition twice already this season as they downed Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in London and in Monaco in the group stage. Monaco has five wins, two draws and two losses on their nine previous visits to England. In addition, Monaco has won five of their previous six two-legged ties against English teams.

These include wins over Manchester United in 1997/98, Chelsea in 2003/04 and Arsenal in 2014/15. Overall, Monaco has eight wins, four draws and four losses against English clubs with 21 goals for and 19 against. Monaco has also made changes to their Champions League squad as Franco Antonucci, Dylan Beaulieu and Jorge were added while Mehdi Beneddine, Adama Traore and Corentin Jean were subtracted. Jemerson will miss this game with a suspension.
