Giants vs Vikings – CJ’s Take:

The Vikings, of course, knew that Bridgewater was going to be gone for the year with a knee injury and that his NFL future was in doubt. So they made a bold move, which was to reach out to Philadelphia and acquire Sam Bradford from the Eagles for a #1 and #4 draft pick. Bradford has had his own share of knee injuries, but he is a former Heisman Trophy who was chosen first in the draft, and he has been effective when healthy. He is effective right now, as he has completed 40 of 59 passes for 457 yards and no interceptions. And the Vikings have won a couple of games after getting by Tennessee in the season opener without an offensive touchdown, as they were led by backup QB Shaun Hill.

The Giants blew a 12-point lead against the Washington Redskins last week, and they have lost versatile running back Shane Vereen for the season. That is the bad news. The good news is that the defense at least isn’t folding like a cheap suit, and has been stout against the run, allowing just 3.2 yards per carry. Even prior to Peterson hurting his knee, the Vikings were not running the ball with any effectiveness, so you have to wonder how much they are going to get out of that part of their arsenal.

The Giants have the personnel to pressure Bradford, when you consider the presence of Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon. But they now have to produce. One break they get is that Minnesota has had to place left tackle Matt Kalil on the same injured reserve list Peterson is currently on.

VietBet customers know that if anything is going to carry the Vikings to another NFC North title (remember, they won it last year), it is the defensive unit, which has limited the opposition to 5.6 yards per pass attempt. This week, however, they may encounter their biggest challenge to date, as Eli Manning looks as if he is clicking with wide receivers Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard, along with, naturally, super star Odell Beckham Jr. But the Giants also have to generate something on the ground, and Vereen was their leading rusher. Rashad Jennings, who has an injured thumb, as iffy at best, so most of the burden might fall upon Orleans Darkwa.

Next up for both teams:

  • New York at Green Bay Sunday, October 9
  • Minnesota home to Houston Sunday, October 9
