The New York Giants are set to square off against the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this Sunday, November 1 in an important week eight clash. The Giants downed the Dallas Cowboys 27-20 in a home contest last week to hand head coach Tom Coughlin his 100th regular-season victory. The team now sits on top of the NFC East at 4-3. The Saints have improved to 3-4 on the season after their 27-21 win in Indianapolis last week and occupy third spot in the NFC South. New Orleans has now won two in a row and became the first team to beat Atlanta this campaign.

The Giants managed to get past the Cowboys last weekend even though the offense wasn’t at its best. They beat Dallas for the first time in six attempts due to the play of the defense and special teams. Dwayne Harris won the game in the fourth quarter with 100-yard kickoff return while cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie chipped in with a pair of interceptions and a touchdown and safety Brandon Meriweather added another interception. Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees has been picked off just four times this year, but will need to be careful on Sunday.
Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning and his receivers had a relatively quiet game last week. Manning completed 13 of his 24 passes for 170 yards, which is his season low, and didn’t toss for a touchdown. None of the team’s receivers was able to crack the 70-yard barrier either. Wideout Odell Beckham Jr. gained just 35 yards on six receptions and Rueben Randle added 68 yards on a pair of catches. Manning will be facing a new Orleans side which has been struggling against the passing game as they’ve allowed a third-worst 14 touchdowns via the air so far.
New York’s needs to improve its aerial attack from last week and were fortunate enough to gain some ground with their running game in week seven. Shane Vereen carried the ball four times for 56 yards and Orleans Darkwa took the ball eight times for 48 yards. In addition, Rashad Jennings ran five times for 19 yards. The Giants head into the contest with a 4-1 record against the spread in their past five road trips.
The Saints managed to win two consecutive games since October of 2014 with their win last week as the offense and defense both had good outings. Wide receiver Brandin Crooks and running back Mark Ingram had fine games offensively and linebacker Stephone Anthony, cornerback Kyle Wilson and defensive lineman Cameron Jordan all stood out defensively. Brees had a touchdown pass and gained 255 yards in the air, but was also intercepted once as the saints jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first half. Cooks caught for 81 yards on six receptions out of 13 passes. Brees may have a big game Sunday since the Giants allow a third-worst 288.3 yards against in the air each game.
New Orleans could also look to Ingram on the ground as he carried the ball 14 times last week for 143 yards as he averaged 10.2 yards each run. He’s facing a Giants’ team which concedes 113.4 yards against each outing. Manning, who has been picked off four times in his past four outings, will need to keep his head up too as Jordan had a pair of sacks against the Colts while Wilson and Anthony each recorded an interception. New Orleans needs to keep the pressure on though if they get a lead as they allowed the Colts to get back in the game after taking a 27-0 stranglehold. New Orleans is 3-1 against the spread in their past four encounters against the Giants and have won their past two home meetings with New York.
