Giants vs Falcons Odds – Week 7 MNF Preview

What a huge disappointment it has been for the New York Giants, who came into this season with some high hopes, based on drafting rookie running back Saquon Barkley, who they thought would make a very big difference on this team. Mind you, we’re not saying that Barkley himself has been a disappointment, but that the effect he has on the overall picture has been somewhat mitigated by the fact that there are so many other parts that are not working. On Monday night, the Giants pay a visit to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face the Atlanta Falcons, in a game that begins at 8:15 PM ET. ESPN, of course, will carry the game live, and if you are a VietBet customer, you can place wagers even while he is in progress, using the state-of-the-art software from Live Betting Ultra.

Giants vs Falcons Odds – CJ’s Take

If you were tuned in a couple of Thursdays ago, you saw the Giants looked pretty dreadful in a 34-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. They looked like a team that had given up at some point in the proceedings, and may have been drained from an all-out effort just four days before that, when Carolina got a 63-yard field goal from Graham Gano at the gun to beat them. Yes, we know this team is capable of a strong effort, but at the same time, we know that the locker room has become somewhat combustible, due in no small part to the occasional outbursts from wide receiver Odell Beckham.

As far as the Falcons are concerned, their 2-4 record can mostly be attributed to injuries they have suffered on the defensive side of the football. Head coach Dan Quinn, who helped build the fearsome Seattle defense that drove the Seahawks to a couple of Super Bowl appearances, was hoping to do something similar with this team, and indeed, Atlanta had one of the top yen stop units, statistically speaking, in the 2017 season. But they had losses in the secondary, as well as linebacker Deion Jones, and everything has pretty much fallen apart. Over the last four games, this team has given up 150 points, and you are just not going to be a contender with numbers like that, no matter how good your offense is.

Unbelievably, there have been people crying out for the Giants to replace Eli Manning, even if it is with rookie Kyle Lauletta. Granted, Manning has not shown many signs of being a playoff-level quarterback, and he has been sacked 20 times. But if the Giants were harboring any thoughts of sitting him down, they would have never cut Davis Webb in the pre-season. So they’ve got what they’ve got. And frankly, if the offensive line would do their job a little better, this team may have experienced better results. Instead, they are sitting with a 1-5 record (2-4 ATS).

Beckham has over 500 yards receiving, which is actually pretty impressive, and Barkley not only has 438 yards on the ground, he has also caught 40 passes. So this is nothing to sneeze at. They have not had a lot of support around them, however.

Support, on the other hand, is exactly what the Falcons were looking for when they drafted Calvin Ridley in the first round. Julio Jones (who now has 44 receptions) often drew too much attention from the opposing team’s secondary, and Atlanta needed a distraction. Ridley is developing into that kind of a receiver, averaging 15.9 yards per catch and scoring six touchdowns. And when you look at the numbers, you really can’t fault Matt Ryan for anything; after all, he’s just a shade under 70% completions, has 8.7 yards per passing attempt, and his ratio of 14 touchdowns to just two interceptions is phenomenal. But the defense has collapsed so badly (allowing 296 passing yards per game!) that he really needs all hands on deck to win shootouts. And that would have meant having Devonta Freeman as well. But the running back, who has carried the ball only 14 times, has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury.

That leaves the Falcons in a real bind, but the truth is, they have been moving along without him. All these injuries would seem to give the Giants a chance. Looking at all this, in addition to the way Atlanta’s last five games have gone, and the fact that the Giants have been over 24 points in two of their last four (a big deal around there), we would look to the “over” in this one.
