FIFA Women’s World Cup Soccer Betting Preview – Germany vs France
- bet365 currently lists Germany as the favorites to win this match at 21/20 with France 5/2 and a 90-minute draw at 12/5.
Germany came flying out of the starting gate in Group B as they smoked Ivory Coast 10-0 in their opening match. They drew Norway 1-1 in their second outing and then shutout Thailand 4-0 to seal top spot in the group by goal difference over runners-up Norway. France advanced to the knockout stage by topping Group F with a pair of wins and a loss. They beat England 1-0 in their opening encounter before being shutout 2-0 by Colombia. They clinched a place in the last 16 by thumping Mexico 5-0 in their group finale.
Germany then went on to down Sweden 4-1 in their round-of-16 contest while France shutout South Korea 3-0. Germany and France are regarded as two of the top women’s teams in the world, but one of the pre-tournament favorites will be returning home to Europe after this clash. Top-ranked Germany easily handled fifth-ranked Sweden in their last match and drilled 25 shots at net against them. The striking partnership of Celia Sasic and Anja Mittag took care of three of Germany’s goals in that match while Dzsenifer Marozsan chipped in with the other. Sasic and Mittag each have five goals to their name in the tournament to lead the event in scoring.
The German women have dominated in every match except for the 1-1 draw with Norway. They’ve scored 19 goals s far and allowed just two against. France should definitely be Germany’s toughest test to date, but Germany is still expected to emerge victorious in Montreal. The squad’s eye for shooting has been spot on with 52 shots on target in their four games compared to their 46 shots off target. As well as dominating in the attacking zone, they’re also tough defensively as they’ve allowed just 17 shots towards their net so far with eight of them reaching the target.
France has been improving as the tournament has gone on with two consecutive clean sheets over Mexico and South Korea and a combined eight goals scored. France has gotten off to quick starts in each of their last two outings. Marie Laure Delie has been hot lately with three goals in her last two games and fellow striker Eugenie Le Sommer also has three to her name. Defensively, France has recorded three clean sheets in their four encounters. In addition, France’s lowest possession total for any of their four games has been 58 per cent.
France may feel confident enough to go toe to toe with Germany, and they should be able to find the back of the net at least once, but Germany should have the edge when the final whistle blows.
