Everton vs Manchester United – Head to Head:

  • These two clubs met three times last season as they clashed twice in the Premier League and once in the FA Cup. Man United won 3-0 on the road in league action in October and 1-0 at home in April. They also met in the cup clash in April with United winning 2-1 away. The two sides have met 194 times in the past with Man United winning 85, losing 69 and drawing the other 41. Everton has lost five of the last eight meetings with three wins. Everton has won just seven of the last 45 encounters. .

Everton – A Closer Look:

The Merseyside club got off to a good start under new manager Ronald Koeman, but has been struggling lately with just one victory in their past eight league contests. They enter the weekend in seventh place in the 20-team league though with 19 points from five wins, four draws and four losses. They’ve scored 16 goals and allowed 15 against. They’re just one point behind Man United, but are nine back of fourth-place Arsenal and the last European Champions League place. They’re also 12 points behind league-leading Chelsea.

Everton has an eight point lead over 18th-place Hull City and the relegation zone, though, and should be able to stay out of the drop zone for the remainder of the season, but they’ll still need to pull their collective socks up. Everton is unbeaten at home so far this season with three wins and three draws. Koeman has a relatively healthy squad to choose from with defender Muhamed Besic sidelined until February following his knee surgery and fellow defender Tyias Browning being doubtful for the contest.

Manchester United – A Closer Look:

Manchester United sits in sixth place in the Premier League after 13 games with 20 points from five wins, five draws and three defeats. United has 18 goals to their name and has allowed 15 against. They won their first three league outings of the 2016/17 season, but have just two victories in their past 10 league encounters along with three losses and four draws and have won just once in the last seven. However, they have eight wins in their past 15 games in all competitions. These include three victories in the Europa League as well as beating Northampton, Manchester City and West Ham in the League Cup.

Man United enters the weekend 11 points behind league-leading Chelsea and eight points back of fourth-place Arsenal. United still hasn’t won a league game against a team above them in the standings this season. They were beaten by Man City and Chelsea and drew with Liverpool and Arsenal. Manager Jose Mourinho has a few players listed on the squad’s on the injury list. Forward James Wilson may miss the entire season after undergoing knee surgery while defenders Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling are out until December.

Everton vs Manchester United – Takeaway:

Mourinho hasn’t really been the answer United has been looking for after David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal were in the manager’s seat. He was also tossed out of last week’s league game against West Ham and hasn’t impressed United’s higher-ups. If United has any hope of challenging for a Champions League spot yet alone the league title, they need to win all of their games against teams below them in the standings, such as Everton.
