PinnacleSports 728x90 - English Premier League Betting Preview - Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford April 8th, 2017

Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford – Head to Head:

  • The two clubs met at White Hart Lane on New Year’s Day with Tottenham winning 4-1. Spurs also won both league games last season with a 1-0 victory at home in London and a 2-1 triumph at Watford. The teams have met 42 times in the past with Tottenham winning 27, losing seven and drawing the other eight. Watford is winless in the last 10 meetings with two draws and eight losses, including six defeats in a row. Watford’s last win was 3-2 away in the League Cup in October of 1994. It’s their only win in the past 14 meetings.

Tottenham Hotspur – A Closer Look:

Tottenham is still basically the closest and only threat to Chelsea now as they trail the league leaders by seven points with each team having eight games to play. Spurs have a three-point lead on third-place Liverpool with a game in hand and are also seven points ahead of fourth-place Man City with an 11-point bulge on both Arsenal and Man United with both of those teams having a game in hand. Tottenham has 65 points from 19 wins, eight draws and three losses with 60 goals scored and a league-low 22 against.

Spurs have a league-best seven wins, two draws and a loss in their past 10 league games with 21 goals for and eight against. They’re unbeaten at home this season with 13 wins and a pair of draws with 35 goals for and just eight against. As far as injuries go, manager Mauricio Pochettino is hoping that goaltender Hugo Lloris and midfielder Victor Wanyama will be able to dress. However, striker and leading scorer Harry Kane is sidelined along with defender Danny Rose and it looks like midfielder Harry Winks and forward Erik Lamela may be out for the season.

Watford – A Closer Look:

Watford enters the weekend with a pair of home wins at their back and they’ve now climbed to 10th place in the 20-team league. They have 37 points out of a possible 90 with 10 wins, seven draws and 13 losses. They’ve scored 36 goals and allowed 48 against. Watford has also done relatively well in their last 10 league matches overall with four wins, three draws and three defeats while scoring 13 goals and conceding 12. Away from home, they have three victories, three draws and eight losses with 12 goals for and 25 against.

Watford should be safe for another season in the Premier League as they have a nine-point lead on 18th-place Swansea City and the relegation zone. The club will be facing some personnel problems against Spurs though as defender Miguel Angel Britos is suspended for two more games and forward Mauro Zarate is out for the season as is midfielder Roberto Pereyra. In addition, defenders Christian Kabasele and Sebastian Prodl are both listed as day-to-day along with midfielder Valon Behrami. Defender Younes Kaboul has a long-term injury and midfielder Ben Watson is doubtful.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford – Takeaway:

Tottenham trails Chelsea by seven points and there are still 24 points up for grabs this season. It’s possible to catch their London neighbors, but Spurs may have to run the table to do so and hope Chelsea slips up along the way.
