The Philadelphia Eagles pay a visit to the Motor City this Thursday, November 26 where they’ll take on the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in an important Thanksgiving Day matchup. The Eagles have been dreadful lately and were dealt a 45-17 home loss by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their last outing. They’re now 4-6 on the season and in third place in the NFC East. The Lions haven’t been much better, but will be gunning for a third consecutive victory this week after beating the Oakland Raiders 18-13 last Sunday. They’re 3-7 on the year and still occupy last place in the NFC North though.

Eagles vs Lions – Betting Trends

Philadelphia Eagles:

  • Season record: 4-6 straight up, 4-6 against the spread
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Philadelphia’s last 10 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 5 games on the road
  • Philadelphia is 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 games against Detroit

Detroit Lions:

  • Season record: 3-7 straight up , 3-7 against the spread
  • Detroit is 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 games
  • Detroit is 3-9 straight up in their last 12 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Detroit’s last 6 games

Rookie quarterback Jameis Winston of Tampa Bay tied a record last week with five touchdown passes against the Eagles and the Buccaneers’ Doug Martin ran for an NFL-best 235 yards in a game this season during the contest. The defense was brutal against Tampa and has been struggling for a few weeks now. The Eagles’ offense was supposed to be good under Chip Kelly, but that hasn’t been the case either. Things didn’t go well with quarterback Sam Bradford and they’re no better with Mark Sanchez in his place. The team has just 36 points total in the two games Sanchez has started and he’s been picked off four times. They’re facing a Detroit team which has scored more than 20 points just twice this year, so we could see a low-scoring affair if the Eagles’ defense can get its act together.

Detroit started the season at a woeful 1-7 mark, but has won its last pair of games after enjoying a bye. They’ve beaten Green Bay and Oakland and will be hoping to add Philadelphia to their list of victims. The Lions covered he spread for the first time at Ford Field this season and are 1-5 against the spread at home. Detroit’s offense has still struggled though and their defense has been the key to their winning string. They scored 18 points in each of their two recent victories.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford has played well though and threw for 282 yards in the air against the Raiders and also ran in a touchdown. The Philadelphia secondary has had problems defending the passing game lately and this should be a good sign for Stafford. The Lions’ defense has allowed just 31 points against in their past two outings with cornerback Darius Slay leading the way. The run defense has been spot on by conceding just 97 yards against on the ground in their last pair of contests. If the Lions’ come up with another strong defensive performance and Mark Sanchez struggles for Philadelphia again then Detroit should make it three wins in a row.
