Dolphins Hope QB Can Handle Seattle Crowd
Well, once again it is a new era in south Florida, as Adam Gase takes the reins as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, hoping to bring some vitality to the offense. That’s a strange thing to say when your quarterback has thrown for more than 4000 yards in each of the last two seasons, but there is still something missing in Ryan Tannehill’s game. He is now in his fifth year in the NFL, and he has really done nothing to promote the idea that he is ready to take this team to a post-season berth. But Gase has done some good things with quarterbacks, including Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler, so we will see what he has in store for Tannehill as the Dolphins head to the Pacific Northwest for their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, scheduled to kick off at 4:05 PM ET on Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

One of the criticisms of the Dolphins’ off-season moves, as they try to build this offense, was signing Arian Foster and other people who are bothered by either injuries or off-field problems. Remember that tackle Laremy Tunsil was this team’s first-round draft pick, and he was involved in much controversy before the draft, which caused him to drop quite a bit in the first round. Gase has moved him to the left guard position, alongside Branden Albert, the standout left tackle, so there is no reason why Tannehill should not be better protected. But this is a kid who has been sacked 184 times in his four NFL seasons, including 45 last year, and that has been attributed, more than anything, to his lack of decisiveness.
Seattle’s Russell Wilson was also sacked 45 times last season, and his offensive line is a work in progress. But Wilson has helped the Seahawks get to a couple of Super Bowls, and part of the reason is his ability to improvise. He also developed some genuine rapport with his wide receivers last season, including Doug Baldwin (1069 yards), Jermaine Kearse (685 yards, 14 yards per catch) and rookie Tyler Lockett, who had six TD catches. Tight end Jimmy Graham, who worked wonders with Drew Brees in New Orleans, is coming off knee surgery, but is expected to be available for this game. Marshawn Lynch has retired, but there is really not a gaping hole at running back, as Thomas Rawls, who averaged 5.6 yards per carry, is expected to fill it. But Rawls had ankle surgery in the off-season, and one would have to look closely at how ready he is to go 100%. The Seahawks do not have a lot of depth in the backfield.
Of course, as VietBet patrons know, Seattle has a rather fearsome defense, which allowed fewer points than anyone in the league. They are stingy against both the run and the pass, and will put pressure on Tannehill despite the fact that they only come with a four-man rush most of the time. The Seahawks allowed opponents to convert on only 34% of their third down opportunities, and that doesn’t make for a good combination for the Dolphins, who were only 31% successful in those situations last year.
One thing that will be very difficult for Tannehill to navigate is the crowd noise. Everybody knows that CenturyLink Field is one of the loudest places, if not THE loudest, in the NFL, and it is very difficult to be heard at the line of scrimmage. Tannehill was not trusted to do audibles by the previous offensive coordinators, which must tell you something. Now Gase is letting him do it, and this is a heck of a place to get an indoctrination.
