The Dallas Cowboys have obviously been looking for answers since quarterback Tony Romo went down with an injury, and while they got some decent numbers from Brandon Weeden, they are looking for something more; namely, a victory, which Weeden hasn’t help provide. Coming off the bye week, they have had time to make a move and that is how Matt Cassel finds himself making the start at quarterback on Sunday as they take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Game time is 4:25 PM ET, and after the game kicks off, BetAnySports customers get to ply their skill against ever-changing football betting odds in real-time with Live Betting Extra.

Cassel, who had been a backup for Heisman Trophy winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC, has been with a number of teams, and first got a shot with New England after Tom Brady went down with an injury. He was impressive enough that the Kansas City Chiefs signed him to a free agent contract, and he made the Pro Bowl in 2010. This season the Buffalo Bills picked him up in the hope that he might have a chance to seize the starting QB job over disappointing former first-round pick EJ Manuel. But Cassel didn’t get that done. Yes, he did take the first snap of the season in a “wildcat,” but he was the backup to Tyrod Taylor. On September 22 he was traded to Dallas. Cassel has slightly under 16,000 career passing yards and 96 touchdowns.

Weeden actually had respectable numbers, if you look at them on the surface; he completed 72% of his passes and averaged 7.5 yards an attempt. But this team lost three straight with him at the controls, as his record as an NFL starter fell to 3-15. Weeden short-arms the ball a lot, and Cassel is perceived as someone who can get the ball down the field a little more. That has not necessarily been his reputation in the NFL, however.

Part of the difficulty for the Cowboys might also be that they have apparently been the victim of successful halftime adjustments on the part of the opposition. BetAnySports patrons who like to engage in halftime bets know all too well that with Weeden, Dallas has been outscored 58-13 in the second half of these three games.

The backfield in Dallas gets a shakeup as well. Without Romo, they needed a more viable running game – certainly a more consistent one – and they weren’t getting enough out of Joseph Randle (3.9 ypc) and Darren McFadden (3.5 ypc). So coach Jason Garrett has used the extra time off to work recent acquisition Christine Michael into the offense. Michael was picked up from Seattle in exchange for a late-round draft choice.
