Cowboys vs Browns November 6th, 2016 - Week 9 NFL Odds and Betting Preview

Sooner or later the stone cold Cleveland Browns will win a game, but they have a tough task this week against the red-hot Dallas Cowboys. Dallas has won six straight while the Browns are still winless in 2016/17 at 0-8. The Cowboys edged the Eagles 29-23 at home in overtime last week and sit atop the NFC East at 6-1. Cleveland occupies the AFC North cellar after losing 31-28 at home to the New York Jets and has half a season left now to rectify things. This showdown takes place at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland this Sunday, November 6th.

Dallas Cowboys – A Closer Look:

With rookie quarterback Dak Prescott leading the way it’s going to be hard for Tony Romo to regain his starting job after he recovers from his injury. Prescott threw a pair of touchdown passes in the overtime win over the Eagles last week along with 287 yards and an interception when he went 19 for 29 in passes. He’ll be facing a Cleveland defense which gives up 421.5 yards a game with 143.8 of those coming on the ground each week. The Cowboys own the league’s best rushing game with an average of 161.2 yards an outing.

Rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott carried the ball 22 times for 96 yards against Philly, but rumors are swirling around that he may be looking a suspension in the face because of possible domestic violence. Dallas may also want to target Browns’ quarterback Josh McCown since the team’s offensive line has conceded 22 sacks so far this season. Prescott has tossed nine touchdown passes on the season along with 1,773 yards and just two pickoffs. The Dallas defense and offense offence are ranked seventh-best in the NFL while Cleveland comes in dead last in both categories. The Cowboys are 3-0 both straight up and ATS on their last three road trips.

Cleveland Browns – A Closer Look:

While the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers are both championship-winning teams, the Browns are a winless squad. They came close last week, but ultimately fell by three points, 31-28 at home to the Jets even though they had a halftime lead of 13 points. Quarterback Josh McCown was back at the helm and had a good game. He passed for two touchdowns and 341 yards, but was also picked off twice. It was his first appearance since week 2 and Cleveland has now used six quarterbacks so far this season.

The Browns’ running game didn’t show up against the Jets as they ran for only 68 yards. However, Isaiah Crowell did run in a touchdown. They’ll be facing the Cowboys top-10 ranked run defense, so look for Cleveland to stick to an aerial attack. McCown has some good targets downfield in Gary Barnidge and Terrelle Pryor with Pryor becoming one of the most reliable wideouts in the league this year. He leads the Browns with 532 receiving yards and 41 receptions and also has three touchdowns. He gained 101 yards last week for a good confidence booster.

Next up for both teams:

  • Dallas at Pittsburgh Sunday, November 13
  • Cleveland at Baltimore Thursday, November 10
