There is certainly no doubt that the cloud hanging over the Dallas Cowboys this week regarding the eligibility of running back Ezekiel Elliott was a distraction. But at least this team that is languishing with a 2-3 record will have the opportunity to face a winless team this week as Dallas takes on the San Francisco 49ers in a game that begins at 4:05 PM ET at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Fox Network will televise the game on a regional basis, and if you are a VietBet customer, you can get reduced juice to give you better value, and then, after the opening kickoff, you can continue with real-time wagering, courtesy of Live Betting Ultra.

Cowboys 49ers Odds – Betting Preview
Elliott, of course, received a six-game suspension from the NFL in relation to an alleged domestic abuse situation. Courts had ruled in his favor, but the league stuck with the penalty, which then went on appeal. It looks as if a settlement might be reached between the All-Pro running back and the commissioner’s office, where he will at least be able to play in this weekend’s game and next week at Washington. That’s a good thing, because Elliott accounts for almost 30% of the yardage the Cowboys have gained from scrimmage.
The 49ers fought valiantly last week after trailing 17-0 at Washington, and Kyle Shanahan, the first-year head coach, made the rather bold move of benching Brian Hoyer and replacing him with CJ Beathard, who had been so impressive in training camp. Beathard proceeded to pass for 245 yards and took the team on a couple of touchdown drives, then putting the Niners in position to possibly kick a game-winning field goal, but they came up short, not getting that opportunity.
So what the San Francisco have to do to be competitive in this ballgame? Well, if Beathard is getting the start, he has to be supported by an effective run game. The numbers show that Dallas has been a little soft in that area, giving up 4.6 yards per carry. Carlos Hyde has certainly shown he is a capable runner, but sometimes he disappears. He’s had 360 yards on the season, and Dallas has allowed 328 rushing yards in his last two games. So maybe there’s a combination there that works for the Niners.
Getting some decent yardage on first down is going to be so critical for Shanahan’s team. They have only converted on 31% of their third-down opportunities, and because they fail so often keeping the chains moving, they have less than 28 minutes of possession time per game.
Even though San Francisco released linebacker Navorro Bowman recently, the defense has not been a disaster, necessarily. They have been pretty tough against the run (allowing just 3.4 yards per carry), and they have spent a lot of time on the field, so they’ve been taxed. Of course, you can’t get to 0-6 without having some holes, and San Francisco has surrendered 48% on third down, which is the second worst figure in the NFL.
Here’s one thing worth considering, though – in each of the last five games, the Niners have lost by three points or less, and never has that happened in the history of the NFL. So perhaps, at Levi’s Stadium, a playing surface Jerry Jones absolutely hates, the points are worth taking.
