Indianapolis Colts – A Closer Look:

The Colts’ playoff chances faded quite a bit following their 22-17 home defeat to the Texans last week. They had enough offensive chances to win the game, but couldn’t cash them in. They’re now sitting a game back of both Tennessee and Houston in the AFC South. If they’re going to bounce back in Minnesota they’ll need to protect the ball better than last week. Indianapolis, or rather quarterback Andrew Luck, turned the ball over three times against Houston. He was picked off a pair of times and also had a fumble in the red zone.

It was a bit of a letdown for Luck as he’d been playing well of late. In his previous three games, Luck had tossed seven touchdown passes and gained 761 yards in the air by going 60 for 92. He has also thrown three interceptions, though. The defense also struggled against Houston as it conceded 185 yards on the ground. They might catch a break this weekend though since the Vikings’ rushing offense is ranked last in the league at the moment. The Colts will need to be wary of the Minnesota aerial attack though and try to put the pressure on quarterback, Sam Bradford as he’s been picked off just three times this year. The points total has been over in all half dozen of the Colts’ away outings this season.

Minnesota Vikings – A Closer Look:

The Vikings got back in the win column last week with their 25-16 triumph against Jacksonville, which was their first road win since back in September. Minnesota is still two games back of Detroit in the NFC North though. The Minnesota offense picked up the pace after scoring just 14 points on average in the previous two contests. They were facing a poor Jacksonville defense and took full advantage of it by gaining a total of 377 yards. Bradford passed for a touchdown and 292 yards by going 24 for 34. He’s now tossed 14 touchdown passes and 2,954 yards on the campaign.

The Vikings’ defense is ranked third in the league when it comes to conceding points as it allows just 17.3 points against on average per outing. Pass-rushers Brian Robison, Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen had four sacks between them last week against Blake Bortles. If they can put the same type of pressure on Andrew Luck they may have some success since the Colts’ quarterback has been picked off 10 times so far this year.

Next up for both teams:

  • Indianapolis is at Oakland on Saturday, December 24
  • Minnesota is at Green Bay on Saturday, December 24
