It would seem to go without saying that there is a lot of pressure on the Clemson Tigers right now. They are ranked #1 in all the polls, including the college playoff rankings, and if they can get by the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game, they will more than likely go into the four-team playoff with the top seed. But North Carolina doesn’t figure to be any pushover, as they have only lost once on the season and bring forth a very improved defense from the last time they faced the Tigers. Game time is 8 PM ET on Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, and after the opening kickoff, Vietbet customers will have an opportunity to challenge the college football betting odds in real time through the facilities of Live Betting Extra.

Clemson is 12-0, with a 5-5-2 ATS mark, and they took over the top spot in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls after they had already secured the #1 position in the playoff rankings. They are led by cat-quick quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is making a Heisman trophy case for himself, and they also have one of the top defensive units in the country.
Speaking of defense, North Carolina was pitiful on that side of the ball last season, allowing six different teams to score at least 40 points against them. Then they went out and hired Gene Chizik, a former national championship coach at Auburn, as their defensive coordinator. So they have gone from 117th in the country in scoring defense to 19th, and that is usually going to constitute a quick turnaround.
Against the 2014 version of North Carolina’s defense, Watson had six touchdown passes and 435 yards through the air in a 50-35 Clemson victory. We would venture to say that the Tar Heels are probably going to play a little tighter than that this time around. Against the pass they have been outstanding, allowing only 53.6% completions and less than six yards per attempt. It is against the run that they have sometimes been vulnerable. In the season opener, North Carolina could not figure a way to slow South Carolina on the ground, as the Gamecocks had 254 yards. And they have failed in that category at various points during the season, allowing 4.7 yards per carry overall. Keep in mind that Clemson comes at teams not only with running back Wayne Gallman (1132 yards) but Watson as well, as he has shown Vietbet patrons his versatility with 752 yards on the ground.
The Tar Heels are 11-1 straight-up (8-4 ATS) and they are ranked eighth by the Associated Press and coaches’ polls. They are only #10 in the college playoff rankings, and there is a pretty good reason for that. North Carolina has just not played a high level of opposition, compared with many of the other schools. In fact, even the best foes on their schedule aren’t anywhere near the top 10. So that’s a burden they have to carry.
But they can prove their point on the field with an upset of an undefeated team. The guy who will have to lead that upset his Marquise Williams, who, like Watson, is a dual threat, with 2601 passing yards and 803 on the ground. Williams sometimes gets confused by certain defensive looks, and that’s what happened against South Carolina, as he threw three interceptions in the red zone. Clemson is tough against the pass, allowing just 47% completions, and they are the top defense in the country on third down, allowing only 24% conversions.
