Cardinals vs Redskins Odds - 2017 Week 15 NFL Betting Preview

Cardinals Hold Onto Hope Visiting Redskins

When it comes to teams that have a glimmer of hope in the NFC wild-card race, one that comes to mind is the Arizona Cardinals, who need to probably win out and hope that some other teams can give them some help. It’s a long shot, admittedly, but they showed last week that they were willing to make an effort and they’ll try again on Sunday as they visit the Washington Redskins in a game that begins at 1 PM ET at FedEx Field in Landover. Fox Network will televise the game on a regional basis, and if you are a VietBet customer, you can enjoy real-time wagering after the game kicks off as you take advantage of what is available through Live Betting Ultra.

Cardinals vs Redskins Odds – NFL Betting Preview

Last weekend, in the desert, Arizona put forth a really strong defensive effort, holding the Tennessee Titans to just 204 total yards in a 12-7 victory. Tennessee goes into its games hoping to control things on the ground, but there was nothing doing along those lines against the Arizona defense, which held them to just 65 rushing yards. Marcus Mariota was hindered a little in terms of his mobility because of a bad knee, so that made things easier. This was the second time in three weeks that the Cards had pulled an upset over an AFC contender on their home field, having previously beaten the Jacksonville Jaguars. Arizona is now 6-7 straight-up in 4-8-1 against the football pointspread.

The psychological situation for the Redskins is kind of dicey, in the respect that they are out of the playoff race at this moment. Losing four out of the last five games did not help, and of course when you have defensive breakdowns it doesn’t help either. They have given up 30 or more points in four of these five games, and at the moment they are worst in the NFL, allowing 26.5 ppg. Washington, which could well be saying goodbye to quarterback Kurt Cousins in the next few weeks, dropped to 5-8, both straight-up and against the number, with an extremely lackluster 30-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers this past Sunday.

How bad was Washington on offense last week? Well, they played like they hadn’t even showed up, with only 201 yards and nine first downs. Making only one third-down conversion the entire game was a disgrace, and Cousins’ 151 yards was also unacceptable. Cousins is a 66% passer, with 7.8 yards per attempt, but the very real possibility is that he will go into the free-agent market when the regular-season has concluded, and maybe he hasn’t helped his cause lately.

The Cardinals have been resting Adrian Peterson, who is suffering from a neck injury, but they have been getting a workmanlike effort out of Kerwynn Williams, who has had 170 yards on the ground over the last two weeks. That’s been a huge concern for Arizona, which is last in the league in rushing, averaging 81.2 yards per game, and running the ball is something they’ll probably need to do here. Blaine Gabbert, despite leading this team to some victories, has not been a shining star, with 80.8 quarterback rating, and this team only accumulated 261 total yards against Tennessee.

Washington’s offensive line has been a problem area because of injuries, but VietBet patrons could say the same thing for the Cardinals, who allowed Gabbert to be sacked eight times last weekend. Who can get to the quarterback better? Both of these teams have 31 sacks on the season.

An intriguing matchup might involve wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald against whoever will be covering him on the Washington side, most likely Josh Norman. We say “most likely,” because Fitzgerald has 87 receptions, and the wide receiver next on the list has only 27. But keep in mind that Arizona has a lot of speed in those other guys, and were not altogether that impressed by what Washington has done in the secondary, when we get past Norman. And the Redskins have been more permissive in giving up touchdowns in the red zone than all but three NFL teams. Yes, they might be embarrassed for last week’s awful effort out of the West Coast, and come roaring back in this one, but we think the points are well worth taking anyway, despite the fact that Arizona is a team from out west playing the early game on the East Coast.
