Arizona Cardinals – A Closer Look:

The Arizona Cardinals have been quite inconsistent this season as they’re good one week and bad the next. They’re latest outing was a 30-24 loss in Minnesota. Quarterback Carson Palmer sometimes shows his age especially when he’s under a lot of pressure from the opposition pass rushers. He managed to go just 20 for 38 in passing last week for a completion rate of 52.6 per cent while racking up only 198 yards. He managed a pair of touchdown passes, but was also picked off twice. One of the interceptions resulted in a 100-yard pick-six. Palmer didn’t get much protection though as his offensive allowed him to be sacked four times and hit 19 times in total.

The Arizona defense has been struggling too with just a pair of sacks against the Vikings and allowing quarterback Sam Bradford to go 20 for 28 in passing for a completion rate of 71.4 per cent. Offensively, Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson have been playing well as Fitzgerald averages just over 74 receiving yards a game and Johnson runs an average of 137.3 yards. Johnson is now second in the league in total yards with 1,373, just behind rookie sensation Ezekiel Elliott of Dallas. Arizona has the best pass defense in the league at 190.1 yards against per game and has given up just seven aerial touchdowns. They’re 26 sacks also ranks top-10.

Atlanta Falcons – A Closer Look:

Atlanta has one of the league’s best aerial attacks at 309 yards per game, but they allow 28.3 points against per game, which ranks fifth-worst. Quarterback Matt Ryan was off form last timeout against the Eagles with a touchdown pass and 276 passing yards/ He completed just 54.5 per cent of his passes by going 18-for-33 and his passer rating was a season-worst 55.5. The run game also suffered with Devonta Freeman carrying the ball just 12 times for 48 yards. Receiver Julio Jones had a good game though with 135 yards on 10 receptions. Tevin Coleman missed the game, but should be back against Arizona.

Atlanta has a potent offense which ranks first in the league in points per game with 32. Their 4,166 total yards ranks second as does their 3,090 passing yards while their 1,076 rushing yards ranks eighth. They struggle defensively though and give up the most passing yards per game with 2,830 against so far this season. In addition, Atlanta ranks third-worst by allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete 68.9 per cent of their passes.

Next up for both teams:

  • Atlanta at home to Kansas City on Sunday, December 4th
  • Arizona at home to Washington on Sunday, December 4th
