Both Bournemouth and Everton were knocked out of the English League Cup on Tuesday and will be trying to get back on the winning track when they square off against each this weekend. The Premier League matchup takes place at Vitality Stadium on the south coast in Bournemouth this Saturday, September 24th where Everton will try to keep its undefeated streak alive in league action.

Bournemouth vs Everton – Head to Head:
The two clubs met twice in the league last season as well as in the FA Cup. The sides drew 3-3 at Bournemouth in November in league play with Everton winning 2-1 at home at Goodison Park in April. The FA Cup match was squeezed in between in February with Everton winning 2-0 on the road. Overall, the two clubs have met just six times in the past with Everton going unbeaten on five wins and a draw. They met in the FA Cup back in 1937 with Everton winning 5-0 at home. The Toffees also have 3-2 and 2-0 victories in the League Cup.
Bournemouth – A Closer Look:
Bournemouth was beaten 3-2 at home by second-tier Championship League club Preston North End in the League Cup on Tuesday. The game went to extra time with Simon Makienok scoring a hat trick for the winners. Bournemouth fell to 17th place on the table last weekend at 1-1-3 with four points after being drilled 4-0 away at the Etihad by league-leading Manchester City. Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring in the 15th minute and Kelechi Iheanacho gave the home side a 2-0 lead by halftime with his 25th-minute marker. Raheem Sterling made it 3-0 in the 48th minute and Ilkay Gundogan wrapped things up in the 66th. Man City’s Nolito was sent off in the 86th minute with a red card for a head butt on Adam Smith.
Bournemouth has been struggling at both ends of the pitch so far this year with just three goals scored in their five games and nine allowed. The team has a win and loss at home on the season and can’t afford to drop another three points as they could drop into the relegation zone. Manager Eddie Howe has a relatively healthy squad to choose from as defender Tyrone Mings has returned to the side from injury. This is a game Bournemouth needs to take at least one point from if they intend on proving they belong in the Premier League for another year.
Everton – A Closer Look:
Everton lost its first game under new manager Ronald Koeman as they were downed 2-0 at home by Championship League side Norwich City on Tuesday. However, they’re still unbeaten in Premier League play and enter the weekend with a four-game winning streak on the line. The Merseyside club from Liverpool has four wins and a draw on the season after five games for 13 points and now sits in second place after their 3-1 home victory over newly-promoted Middlesbrough on Saturday. They’ve scored 10 goals so far this campaign and have allowed just three against.
Everton was up 3-1 by halftime last weekend with goals from Gareth Barry in the 24th minute, Seamus Coleman in the 24th and Romelu Lukaku in injury time. Middlesbrough had jumped into an early lead as Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was charged with an own goal in the 21st minute. Barry was playing in his 600th Premier League game while Lukaku now has four goals in his past two outings. Everton is just two points behind league-leading Manchester City. Koeman also has a pretty healthy team, but defenders Muhamed Besic and Tyias Browning are out with long-term injuries.
Bournemouth vs Everton – Takeaway:
Everton could turn out to be the surprise team of the season much like Leicester was last year. Koeman should be able to lead his squad to three points here against a Bournemouth side that will have a hard time keeping above the relegation zone this season.
