On Sunday the Bills take to the road as they tackle the Tennessee Titans in a game that will get underway at 1 PM ET at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Buffalo held Andrew Luck in check in the opening game of the season, and they thoroughly embarrassed the Miami Dolphins, in one of the games that eventually led to the demise of coach Joe Philbin. Certainly Rex Ryan didn’t mind that, but he was hoping for better showing from his team last weekend against the Giants. Instead, the Bills got penalized 17 times, bringing their total to a league-leading 58, and they went away rather quietly, 24-10.

Tennessee, which blew a lead in the fourth quarter to Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in a 35-33 defeat two weeks ago, had a bye week to get things straightened out. Of course, they are going with a rookie quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, who captured the NFL’s offensive rookie of the month award for September.

The task for them, and in particular defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau, might be easier because of some key offensive personnel missing on the Buffalo side.

Ryan wanted to implement a “ground and pound” philosophy, and that was the reason behind acquiring LeSean McCoy from the Philadelphia Eagles. But McCoy has had trouble getting out of the gate, because of a hamstring problem that continues to sideline him. Rookie Karlos Williams, who had filled in for him, was averaging 5.4 yards per carry, but unfortunately he will not be available for this game because of a concussion. All of a sudden, that leaves Buffalo very thin the backfield, because they do not have an available running back who has gained so much as a yard this season.

Will that mean they will have to rely more on the arm of Tyrod Taylor? That might be the case, and he has indeed provided some excitement this season. BetAnySports patrons know that he was a career backup before Ryan gave him his chance during training camp, and he has responded by completing almost 72% of his passes, and his favorite target has turned out to be tight end Charles Clay, who caught nine balls last week to bring his total to 21 for the season.

The effect of LeBeau has been felt right away in Nashville, as the Titans are the best team in the league in the category of yards allowed per drive. However, they have been susceptible to the big-play, allowing four completions of more than 40 yards. On the offensive side, Mariota has averaged 8.6 yards and attempt, but he has been sacked 12 times. Buffalo has allowed 298 passing yards per game, so there might be some openings available that will allow the rookie to operate.
