2018 Philadelphia Eagles Odds and NFC East Betting Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles’ quick ascent to the top under head coach Doug Pederson was able to overcome a major roadblock last season, as quarterback Carson Wentz went down with a knee injury, and that required Nick Foles to play the hero in guiding them to a Super Bowl victory. VietBet customers might expect this team to take a little bit of a downturn this year, but you have to wonder at the same time whether any of the other teams in the NFC East are ready to surpass them.

One of the big questions, obviously, involves the health of Wentz, who should be ready for the start of the regular season, but night might not be 100%. That’s one of the reasons they did not accept any of the offers that were made for Foles, who wound up being the Super Bowl MVP. So basically they are covered in the worst-case scenario.

2018 Philadelphia Eagles Odds and Betting Preview

One of the people they lost that of a deep backfield was LeGarrette Blount, a proven post-season performer who was recruited by the Detroit Lions, who have not had a ground game of much consequence in recent years. So this leaves the role of featured back clearly in the hands of Jay Ajayi, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe they will get a return to health of Darren Sproles, who is a very capable situational back. So there was probably not much need to make a major addition to the backfield.

Out wide, Mike Wallace comes aboard, and there have been situations where he has served well as a big-play receiver. Something like that was needed, as Torrey Smith went out the door and is now the property of the Carolina Panthers. Philadelphia has the capable Zack Ertz at the tight end spot, but they have lost a couple of their other tight ends – Brent Celek and Trey Burton, who if you recall threw a touchdown pass on that gadget play in the Super Bowl. Dallas Goedert was drafted in the second round (some say to keep him away from the Cowboys), and the South Dakota State product will get some playing time.

One of the other losses that must be mentioned is that of offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who took the head coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts. But this offensive line could be better than last year, especially if Jason Peters, the Pro Bowl left tackle, can manage to play all season healthy.

As far as the other coordinator position is concerned, Jim Schwartz stayed on, and that was very good news. Schwartz, the former head coach of the Detroit Lions, has done a great job in the City of Brotherly Love, and one of his major philosophies is to rotate a number of defensive linemen in and out of the game. So the Eagles are very deep at the position, and they got even deeper in the off-season, as they added defensive and Michael Bennett, who was an All-Pro with the Seattle Seahawks, and Hatoli Ngata, a defensive tackle who was with Detroit. So we expect that the Eagles won’t slip much from their #4 ranking on defense.

One of the things that we discovered about Pederson is that he is deep into getting some analytical direction, even while the game is in progress, and he is not afraid to take chances as a result. It’s this kind of progressive thinking that has us believing the Eagles might be able to be at or near the top of this conference for years to come.
