2018 New Orleans Saints Odds and NFC South Betting Preview

New Orleans Saints 300x225 - 2018 New Orleans Saints Odds and NFC South Betting PreviewThe New Orleans Saints were one of the big surprises in the NFL last season, and not just because they were able to make it back to the playoffs. It’s the WAY they made it back to the playoffs. It seems like during the Drew Brees era this team had developed an image as a pass-only offense with very little defense, at least in recent years. But that changed last season, and VietBet customers might expect it to stay that way.

2018 New Orleans Saints Odds and Betting Preview

Last year, Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara combined for 1852 rushing yards and 1242 yards in receptions. They also scored 25 touchdowns between them. Very rarely in NFL history has a backfield been that productive. Of course, we now have to take into account that Ingram, the former Heisman Trophy winner, is going to be out for the first four games with a suspension. So it’s going to become Kamara’s show for a while, with not a whole lot in the way of support. Kamara was in on 45% of the team snaps last season, and he averaged 7.7 yards per touch, which was an NFL record.

Willie Snead has left for the Baltimore Ravens, while Cameron Meredith will take his place, having spent last season with the Chicago Bears. But the history of Brees is that he is usually able to make things happen, regardless of what his receiver group is. We imagine that the team may look around to see if there are some viable alternatives to provide support in a backfield, to cover themselves in the early part of the season.

On the offensive line, Jermon Bushrod, who played with this team from 2007 to 2012, comes back into the fold, and if nothing else, he will provide some depth up front. Veteran Ben Watson is also on board as a tight end, coming from Baltimore. And the Saints have a new backup quarterback. Gone is Chase Daniel, who rejoins his former offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, with the Chicago Bears, and in comes Tom Savage, whose experience was choppy at best with the Houston Texans. The Saints probably take a net loss on that exchange.

The defense, by way of yardage allowed, was middle of the pack, finishing 17th in the league, but they were pretty good at preventing the opposition from scoring, ranking 10th in that department. This is a secondary that has made a lot of progress, and that includes Marshon Lattimore, the cornerback who was probably one of the two or three best rookies in the league. They are hoping to hit the jackpot again with first-round draft pick Marcus Davenport, a defensive end from Texas-San Antonio who they believe can bring a furious pass rush. After Cameron Jordan’s 13 sacks, no other New Orleans defender had more than 4.5 last season.
